Or if it's time for a new phone. It looks a good device, as they always are. I'll be preordering one for Mrs.Handle on Friday.

I saw now mention of face unlock/touch id, so I assume the status quo that all the new ones announced today are still face unlock?

NZ not getting the new HomePod Mini. Grrr. Guess I’ll have to get a friend in Aussie to send me over one. Totally pointless decision.

iPhone 12 only looks good if you are wanting the updated Camera, the other thing they were pushing is 5G but not really any good to us due to Vodafone only having reasonable 5G coverage in the 3 big cities + Queenstown (unless they are all about to turn on a big expansion of the network) or you live in Palmerston North where Spark has 5G.

Quite so. My iPhone 11 lives on for another year at least I think.

Other thing to watch is the new iPhone comes with a USB-C to Lightning cable so need to think about upgrading your charger if you want quick charging.

At least now if you buy an iphone you can plug it into your macbook!

Interesting decision around this, majority of customers won't have a USB C brick and most likely will end up buying one........ which negates their carbon neutral stance.

proving the decision was around hitting a particular cost target.

Work is likely to upgrade my phone to one of these. I wonder if they’ll provide a new brick?........ Not likely.

Either way I'll stick with my Sonos gear as they are a specialist audio company.

I will challenge you there...

They are software company who bring in outside speaker designers to develop their transducers.

They focus on patents and other such elements for financial viability - so they are very much cut from the same cloth as Apple in some ways.

If you want a specialist speaker company, it's B&W / Klipsch / Elac / DynAudio / Polk / Sonus Faber / Kef / Tannoy etc.

Or Sonance... the company that Sonos got to make their in-ceiling and outdoor speakers because they know that they are, outright, a software company.

Fair enough. I wasn't really meaning to imply that Sonos is a serious hi-fi company, but my comments were more a reflection of my lack of trust in Apple given their hyperbolic presentations around the capabilities of their products.

Is it sad that I am more excited about the magnetic accessories than the device itself?

But on a more serious note, is the iPhone 12 Mini supposed to replace the SE? Or is the SE still smaller and cheaper?

Never realised! - Still just outside the coverage in Palmy

I too was excited to hear magsafe return... not in the Qi form though.

I don't think the 12mini is replacing the SE. The SE is hitting a sweet spot in the market (and for a lot of companies too, being their new standard).. I still have to use my 8 for another 1-2 years :(

Anyone else going to be refreshing the apple site at 1am Saturday to order a 12 Pro?

I'm keen to see if the new glass is better at scratch resistance as the last few models seem to scratch very easily.

I like the look of the new accessories but my wife did ask about keys etc. getting stuck to the back of your phone all the time.

Anyone got the NZ prices?

Thanks!

Edit: Crikey, starting at $1349 for the Mini (64GB) - Plus I'd have to buy a charger. Lol

I can't believe that in this day and age, they are starting at 64gb still...the absolute minimum nowadays should be 128gb - even when everyone theoretically has cloud storage.

Apps are getting huge, photo and video files are already large and you'd burn through 64gb very quickly, I feel.
