They will sell enough to make a massive profit from them.
I have a use a lot of apple products but these I would not notice much from my beats I guess for what I use them for.
If people have the money they buy them end off and more money in apples pockets.
Edit : I noticed that they have a backlog of orders already and a month at least for a delivery here so somebody is buying them.

These are just another example of Apple's voracious greed that has kept me away from ever buying into the brand.
That said, as I type this, a lifetime Android user, I am waiting on delivery of my new iPhone 12. My distain for Google's data harvesting has now outstripped my distain for Apple's greed.

I have the solution to that. Sailfish OS. There is only a limited number of supported handsets and you have to flash it yourself, BUT you can be free of Google and Apple. It's what I use and for those that need Android apps there is support to run most Android apps.

Honestly why would anyone in the real world bother? Solutions like this are always a kludge at best.

Lol. Company wants to make money. Man bites dog, more news at 11.
All comes down to what they sound like, and whether the sound quality is worth the money, and the sound is up to the quality of similar priced premium audiophile headphones. It is odd that they have copied a lot of the design of the apple watch, right down to the dial. Also odd that you have to buy a special case for it to preserve battery life. This is just stupid IMO, when it should be capable oo that feature without being put in that ugly expensive case that makes it look like a handbag. I don't know what apple are thinking.

Yeah I know, silly of me to let ethics stand in the way of consumerism. I'll try harder next time.

The reality is that much cheaper products like the Sennheiser Momentum 3 have exceptional audio quality, and anything better is a waste of money if you are using a bluetooth connection. High end audiophile headphones need to be physically plugged in to a proper hifi system.
I think Apple's strategy is to screw as much money as they can out of the brand loyalists and early adopters, before eventually launching a cheaper alternative that will probably replace the Beats Studio 3.
Yeah nah, I'll stick with my XM3 and Bose 700 thank you very much, both of which can be purchased together for less than a grand
When a product like this is over double the price of the recognised leaders in the market (Sony, Bose) there's only one conclusion I can come to. It's a piss take.
I suppose there is one other cynical conclusion and that is Apple are banking on their followers to be so fanatical that they will buy an Apple product no matter the price and want to have bragging rights about how much they paid.

On the train earlier this week, I counted five people sitting in the three rows immediately in front of me wearing headphones, and all five were Sony WH-1000 series.
Bose are becoming the rarity.
Off topic for a moment

Plenty do bother for many reasons.
Whether or not kludge applies is a personal perspective. I certainly don't consider it to be kludgy, I need a reliable phone. In this case I suspect you've never tried the OS to have made that statement. While it may not be quite as polished in some areas as Android or iOS it runs very well with all the standard apps you need on a daily basis.

Yep, that is my experience also when I'm out and about. I absolutely love my XM3's. They are very very good and I don't see how you could justify over twice the price for anything better, and I'm not sure the Apple product is actually better.

Well the first impressions are rolling in, and it's sounding good (pun intended):
On top of that, their noise canceling is arguably the best I've experienced, slightly edging out the noise canceling on both Sony's WH-1000XM4 and Bose's Noise Cancelling Headphones 700.
(CNET)
Sound-wise, I've had fun listening to the AirPods Max for a few hours — they're crisp and bright, with a pleasingly wider soundstage than my Sony headphones, and no distortion at all, even at max volume.
Sounds like these might have the edge over the Sony XM4s (not to mention the pairing/switching will be far superior for those of us who use all-Apple computers/tablets/phones, thanks to the H1 chip).
