zocster:

as much and as many your wallet allows, remember you can have unlimited aliases.

My single Google Workspace user account (mailbox) with 4 different aliases mismatching with 4 different domains. I don't use the primary account to communicate and that stays very private to me to use to log in. I set up the send-as for these aliases to send/reply emails from respective aliases.

And these are the domains set up to use Google Workspace.

Thanks,

I'll play around and figure out creating an email and aliases... Hopefully when I reply to an email sent to an alias, the reply-to is the alias?

And chiefie you use 5 domains and have all of them sending emails?

Hey OP, I'm confused why you decided not to use iCloud+ since you already have it? Sounded like all you needed to do was update your MX records with domain registrar?

Definitely check and double check your Gmail's Settings > Accounts > Send email as field. Set a default, and make sure you set "reply-as" to what you want.

My other strong advise is (an entirely up to you) to keep your primary domain and login very safe. I chose a login that isn't as easily expected. e.g. avoid "god" "admin" "master" "chosen.one" et all. :P

Google Workspace is your own slices of many Google services governed under your own domain. The first account signed up is the "admin" for your domain. I don't know if you can use a Google account to admin your own domain - I doubt so but I could be wrong, I didn't venture that path.

Batman: ... anyway, after buying a domain, i have no idea how to get emails or set up email accounts for my domain

Batman: ... just .. need to connect all the dots in the middle! i guess my first question is - owning a domain with a registrar (crazydomains) will not in itself allow me to set up emails service? i need to pay money somewhere ...

Correct, you will have to pay some money.

  • Either you pay money for the hardware so that you can load Linux & some mail daemon or Windows server & Microsoft Exchange

    • The mail daemon or MS Exchange are the mail servers par that store the users mailbox & emails
    • You have to worry about storage & user mailboxes as well
  • Or you pay Google / Microsoft / Migadu / Zoho to manage the mail server part & you only worry about managing the storage & user mailboxes

Either way, owning a DNS domain does not automatically give you access to email. DNS & email are administered separately. You can have

  • one (DNS domain without email)
  • or the other (free email with out DNS as you don't manage the DNS for the free email provider)
  • or both (your own DNS domain with your own email domain)

Batman: crazydomains has a "advanced DNS" upgrade. will buying that alone allow me to create email addresses on google workspace?

On the crazydomains.co.nz website, I can find "Premium DNS" which states: "Premium DNS is built with advanced traffic routing features and record management all backed by a SLA Guarantee."

No, this will not allow you to create email addresses on Google Workspace. They are talking about traffic routing so that visitors to your website have faster load times.

Batman: so if i have DNS control i will be able to set up as many emails as i want on google workspace? ...

No, Google will charge you per user mailbox, e.g.

Just like crazydomains will charge you for user mailboxes / email address

No, you can't use a @gmail.com account to manage a Google Workspace domain.

As chiefie stated, the Google Workspace allows you to use use the Google services (Google Drive, GDocs, Gmail) with your own domain instead of the @gmail.com domain

@chiefie:

I went with Google Workspace with 1 user for myself, I registered a bunch of domains with IWantMyName.com (I transferred my last and longer domain from CrazyDomains just after OpenHost transitioned to them, which was formerly WebDriver. O/T: I find IWMN is simply great and easy.

With Google Workspace, I set up a primary domain which I use as login, I then registered all the secondary domains and configured them as aliases (mailboxes+domains aliasing) to a single user mailbox.

after a few days I'm getting the hang of Google Workspace -

I seem to have set it up exactly as you have

primary domain login in and owning the mailbox, created a few aliases using secondary domains.

but when you reply to those email from the catch-all mailbox, how do you reply as that specific alias for that specific email?

there is no "reply as" option in the email compose box.

thanks

You cant, and its caused me some issues with idiot trademe sellers who want me to email from the address on my trademe account despite emailing from addresses not actually being a thing.

ah i have found the section where you can add email addresses. once you add more email addresses an additional option appears at the "compose" box called "From".

when I add email addresses i can add as "alias" or "not an alias"

i wonder what the difference is. i seem to add everything as "not an alias" - is that the right thing to do?

(i read somewhere on google i can have a maximum of 99 emails - hopefully that should be enough!)
