Behodar:

If people find "Your call has been forwarded to voicemail. The person you’re trying to reach is not available. At the tone, please record your message." confusing then they probably have bigger problems!

The problem was the message in the betas up to now said something along the lines of "the person you're calling may pick up" which confused people and thought they were on hold rather than at voicemail

I don't check my voicemail, since doing so is an interminably painful process.

Transcribe it and send me a text message or something, even if it's not 100% accurate I'll get the gist.

That's exactly what Live Voicemail does

Geektastic: Will this be supported in NZ?

Visual voicemail was available some time ago on iPhones I recall but wasn’t supported here.

The Live Voicemail feature activates when you set your iPhone region and language to USA. Seems to work quite well.

Doesn’t that cause other issues though if the phone thinks it’s in the wrong place (aside from possibly messing up spelling!)?

I used to find that when I was checking my voicemail, more people would be calling me and leaving more messages.

I changed my message to say "I don't check my voicemail messages, or answer private numbers.  Please send me a text, and I'll get in touch with you as soon as I can".  This works brilliantly.

Nope, works 100% fine.

I have done exactly the same - but think that new iOS system might be pretty useful.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

So it doesn’t mess up the spelling?

Thanks for the unlock, mods! Might I also suggest an edit to the thread title (iOS Live Voicemail)?

Anyhoo, I had a nice surprise yesterday when someone left me a voicemail during a meeting I was in, and their message starting appearing as text on-screen in real time.

Long story short, seems that Live Voicemail is working beautifully on the iOS 18 Developer Beta. I'm on One NZ and have voicemail completely disabled at the carrier end.

Could this be a new permanent feature, or do we think it's just a glitch of Apple not restricting it per country/carrier during the beta?

So Live Voicemail was working for awhile here in NZ on iOS 17 on One NZ networks and Spark.

I have definitely received Live Voicemails on my NZ OneNZ phone number.  As a matter of fact I'm looking at one of them and the transcript right now.

Also, on a number of occasions I would call family members on Spark and OneNZ numbers and sometimes I would get their normal carrier voicemail and other times it would clearly be Siri answering and using the Live Voicemail (it was VERY easy to tell because my partner uses the Siri Male South African voice and it's quite distinct and easy to identify)

However, I now have no option to enable/disable Live Voicemail.  I get the feeling this was working in iOS 17 at least back in May of this year.  It was wildly inconsistent though...so did Apple or the carriers block/disable it with one of the recent iOS patches or through some kind carrier-based push configuration?

Make sure Settings > Language & Region is set to United States for region and just “English” for preferred language. Then it should be there. It’s only mean to work in the US which is why this workaround is required in NZ.

Late to forum but really wished I could connect Spotify to the home pod without having to use AirPlay. I know I can use Siri but a real mission sometimes. Trying saying Play radio hauraki I get all sorts of random things

Yup...that did it.   I don't recall having my phone set to US before though which is strange...

I have the option and my region is set to New Zealand, my language is set to "English (US)" though so I can use Apple Intelligence (iOS 18.1 beta 3)

Since upgrading to iOS 18 Live Voicemail is now available and working for my 2D line. :)
