I dont, but I'll ask him, perhaps it was a misunderstanding.

oh darn...my wife is on VF and we are best mates (you know what i mean)

The thing is though, my u/l & d/l speeds on VF are crapola! and I want better. From what I've heard XT slaughters VF.

At full bars I get 117kb's up and 94kb's down with VF on 3G - Golly!

Maybe I'll change us both over to Helecom?

That was the case up until two or three years ago. Now Apple supply NZ direct themselves. Happened at the same time the iTunes Store went live in NZ.

In case people are interested, I have just seen Optus in OZ has announced their pricing for the new 3Gs phone.

http://personal.optus.com.au/web/ocaportal.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=Template_woRHS&FP=/personal/mobile/iphone3G/iphonepricing&site=personal

Looks pretty reasonable (eg. 32gb for OZ$456 on 24month plan at $49/month), but is locked of course.

Mike.

small correction needed. Renaissance is still the official distributor of Apple product in NZ with the exception of the iPhone. No contract was lost. When the Apple Store arrived a couple of years ago all product purchased online from the store is supplied direct out of either Australia or Singapore. Those items do not come throuh Renaissance and Renaissance is NOT a reseller, even though they own MagnumMac ???? ;-).

This applies ONLY to goods sold through the online store. Renaissance still has the contract to distribute Apple product to AAR's.

steve98: I would bet a large amount of money on XT getting the 3G S. We know that Vodafone have not got an exclusive deal with Apple, and I just don't think that Apple are going to turn down a telco that holds half the marketshare of the country. Also, check this page out: http://www.apple.com/nz/iphone/buy/.

See that space between the two grey lines underneath the Vodafone logo? That's a placeholder. That space wasn't there for the 'where to buy' page for the 3G. My guess is there'll be an XT logo and logo there before too long. Right now, Telecom is trying to promote their 'world first' Sony Ericsson W995a, so they wouldn't want to take the spotlight off it prematurely by announcing the 3G S. NZ doesn't get the 3G S until 09/07 anyway so there is plenty of time left for them to announce it. Just bookmark that link and watch that space!

This from Stuff this morning:

"Telecom said last month it was in "deep discussions" with Apple, but spokesman Mark Watts said the company would not comment on whether it would sell the iPhone 3GS."

I read a report when the phone was first announced that Mark Watts said Telecom would not be selling the new phone, but carrying on from Steve's post above if you type in http://www.apple.com/nz/iphone/buy/ and in another tab type in http://www.apple.com/au/iphone/buy/ you can compare the two sites and see it does look like there is space for one more company's details to be displayed. I'm no expert, but all this combined does look hopeful.

2 Words......Apple Warranty

Ok maybe some more.....It's a non issue really (if you look at the bigger picture). OK so it's never good for these things to happen, but they do, just like the 3G with the cracked cases, which is why Apple has a 1 year warranty and as with all iPhones/iPod Touches they are too much hassle to repair so they just replace them.

Cheers
