raab: I heard some douche is camping outside Magnum Mac in New Market, presumably for the iPad.

And isn't it the best weather for it!  rain, rain and more rain in Auckland today!

Funny thing is, right across the road there is a parallel import shop that sells iPads, he could buy one today (at a higher price) rather than camping in the cold and wet on Broadway for 2 days.....

Or maybe he's a week early for the iPhone!!!!

especially if he spent that time working, he could pay for the more expensive iPad from parallel imported and have money left over.

or maybe he's just a homeless man waiting to jump some rich people before they buy the ipad?

Just read the linked article, sorry but it sounds more like a marketing exercise than anything else - since when did the CEO of the Newmarket Business Association care is someone got their iPad, or care (or even know) about Twitter and Tweeting?

If I camp outside Noel Leeming will security keep an eye on me too?  Or tell me to (nicely) move along????

And this whole secrecy around what stores will get stock is just crap - I mean next in a week or so people will be able to just walk into a store a pick one up - in and out in five minutes - and on-one will care or remember which stores where "secretly chosen".

-1 from me......

Yes, we already know this as stated many times.  It's just that they are selling them at such inflated prices.

Yes, that is what I said - there is a shop across the road from Magnum Mac, in Newmarket.  But as heavenlywild said, they are at a large price premium.

Lilly: On the late news last night (TV!) they said that stores selling the iPad would be named on Friday morning.

quite right, all retailers have been told NOT to take pre-orders and NOT to tell customer that they will be selling them and it makes perfect sense why.

Apple wants hype, Apple wants people to be able to walk into a shop and pick one up, not to walk into a shop and get told "sorry, all our stock has been allocated to pre-orders".

Despite what anyone maybe getting told when going into Magnum Mac (why would anyone shop there?), none of the monkeys know anything, Apple are great at keeping things low key.

I do really like the idea of being able to go into a shop and possibly pick one up.  When I bought my 3G that was the most frustrating part of the purchase.  All of the stores that I contacted had already allocated all of their stock.

Whilst I agree with the general 'Apple hype' thing, the problem I have is that the hype has been and gone due to the device being able overseas and in import stores nation wide.  As I noted earlier anyone can just walk into import store XYZ and buy one, today, last week, or last month, naturally at a higher price, but the only reason to buy one from Apple (Magnum Mac etc) is for price, and with that price all other stores with imported stock will need to match or beat it, or be left with dead stock.

And true, Apple is great at non-communication to build up that hype, but again another problem - the general public's first point of contact is these 'monkeys' - not Apple, or the importers, or the distributers, but the shop floor and phone assistants, the very ones who DON'T get the information, which I personally think doesn't help.

Yea, I agree, it makes things difficult, and even somewhat unprofessional but in my experience, thats Apple, thats how they roll and I doubt they'll ever change.
Anyway, I can't wait for Friday to be over (no, I'm not buying an iPad), and I hope everyone who goes to get an iPad, gets one, and enjoys it.

Too true!

I might even buy one, if I could walk into a store and just get one, maybe next week.  I work in town so their must be at least one place.

Cool gadget I am sure I will find a use for.  Correction - I HAVE to find a use for, otherwise my wife will ask some difficult to ask questions!

Let me know what good uses you can think of as I'm sure I'm not the only one needing good answers to questions from the better half:)
