Don't take it out on me but you answered your own question in your post!

Why did you not direct your question at Telstraclear? They are your service provider

We use the Vodafone network via Telstra so why doesn't tethering work? Technically what is the answer?

Telstra aren't clear on this either. Why cant you guys just play nicely together - or shall we just blame Apple?!?

I really hope that Apple have fixed the Wifi functionality that they broke with the last major iOS release.

We do play nicely together they are an MVNO and use our network.

If you have any questions best to direct them at your service provider Telstraclear.

I would assume its because there is no carrier bundle in iOS for the TCL APN.

@JohnR Vodafone - So to answer my first question do you know technically why our iPhones can't tether? I think you can't absolve all responsibility of this matter as when I look at the top left hand corner of my iPhone, its got your logo!

So who is responsible for organising a carrier bundle for the TCL APN? Why cant Tlestra customers use the Vodafone APN and then tethering could work? Couldn't data be tracked via the unique phone ID?

It's less a question of 'who is responsible' and more a question of 'Apple have an exclusive deal with Vodafone in NZ and will only bless them with a carrier bundle'.

So, both, really. If tethering is that important to you, your options are:

* Become a Vodafone customer
* Jailbreak
* Buy an Android

NB: I'll update tonight and let you know whether tethering works on 2degrees. We are not blessed either.

(OTOH hand my particular phone is an Australian model purchased direct from Apple, rather than an NZ one, not that that should matter).

In actual fact I mean - I will become an XT customer and take my (companies) 28 iPhones with me. Telstra and Vodafone lose.
