I believe that it'll be out this week. Developers have received near-final copies so I think we're about there.

We discussed this on the last NZ Tech Podcast (episode 34) as we had info from a friendly source. Can't gaurantee anything until it's official but have heard that NZ availability is likely to be beginning of November. And yes, the stock is likely to be quite limited initially. Hopefully we'll get the full details on Wednesday morning.

I was hoping for a cheaper 4S model, and a brand new iPhone 5 model but it's looking more likely the 4S will be the new iPhone. VF Germany published compatible iPhone models on their accessories page yesterday, with 16, 32 and 64gb iPhone 4S models listed.

Do you have any info from your source on the next iPod refresh? Want to get my daughter an iPod Touch for Christmas, but don't want to get the current gen if a new one is just around the corner.

Hmm, so whats a 4S, thats the issue. Dual core, same form factor?? Slightly larger screen? hardly compelling now if that is all.

Supposedly gets the iPad2's dual core A5 chipset, 8mp camera and more ram... not certain about the form factor, a 64gb model seems on the cards, but only one more sleep 'till we find out everything.

Yes, I know but hardly compelling. New form factor, noticeably bigger screen will all be good. Otherwise, IMO its like getting a new car, but its the same car as last with more Chrome and bits and pieces, rather than a new model.  With the competition out there, are Apple taking the policy of a catchup now? Thats a big bet.

Or, it may be that it is more hype, and there will be a 5?

Looks like it, yes. I am losing interest, and iOS5 is a very nice move, the hardware isn't for me at least.
64Gb for a phone looks a little over the top too.
