JEDENZED:
DTan: Computerworld reports that the phone can be bought standalone. Is this true?

Yep, I'd assume the same, buy outright from Apple. Got an email from dick smith regarding "walk-in" availability in 3 stores with no explicit reference to a carrier contract but I'd still guess there's a telco lurking in the background somewhere...

While you guys wait, my wife walked into the 2degrees store and bought her new phone. Just sign up to an open term contract and cancel it after one month. So pay for one month of the plan and you get the phone. Sneaky telcos.

I hate people that do that. You don't realise it as the customer, but at 2degrees the sales person gets a financial penalty on their commission if they sign someone up and they cancel within the first three months. At least that used to be the case just under a year ago, though it probably hasn't changed since that rule has been there since day one for 2D.

9.1 beta 2 definitely not working nicely, putting it back to 9.0.1

A beta is a beta, it will never be nice. Why use a beta when you are already on a full version of iOS 9?

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Hooray!!!

Don't like to be the one to say "I told you so" but I'm lacing that mother up to a nice snug fit... ;)

ahaha got it! So awesome. First NZ unboxing video?

Sorry to steal your thunder but I love it how the media are so off base sometimes (not your fault of course!).

"...first person in NZ and perhaps even the world to get his hands on an iPhone 6S..."

  • I opened my iPhone 6S here in NZ over an hour before that
  • I'm sure I wasn't the first in NZ either
  • Someone in the US got their iPhone 6S (or Plus) delivered earlier this week
  • Reviewers overseas have had the device for a week or so already
  • Apple employees at the key note were handling the phone at the start of September
  • I am sure that Tim Cook and other key execs would have had the new devices well before launch
  • Apple designers would have had their hands on the phone well before this, as would assembly staff
Yes I am being a pedant.  Not slamming you Sam, just the media... :-)

In Hamilton, delivered by CourierPost to my house.

Just restoring from backup now - presumably it'll retain IOS 9 out of the box?

littleheaven: I'll eat my hat if these pre-orders are coming from China. My money is on them shipping from Sydney by lunchtime today. Shall we have a sweep? :o)

I'm glad you don't have to eat a hat :-).  And am very surprised that the number of handsets ordered via the Apple Store for delivery today here in NZ was/is 18,000 if that number is accurate!  Wow.
