josephhinvest: Well have only had a few minutes to use my iPad so far. Initial impressions are great, I like it a lot.
I glossed over the instruction on how to invoke spotlight and now can't work it out!
Also, on iPad, the way folders are implimented is shockingly terrible. I can't believe they made that decision!
(9 times on screen, have to scroll to next 9 etc) what a cock up! Hopefully will be fixed quickly.

Cheers,
Joseph

Hi Joseph can you clarify what you mean re the folders?(9 times on screen, have to scroll to next 9 etc)

When you open a folder, it displays a 3x3 grid of icons, with multiple pages. So if you want the app that was previously at the bottom of your 20 icon folder in iOS 6, you now have to swipe twice to get to the same app. It's a PITA. All the iPad screen real estate is wasted.

To invoke Spotlight, just swipe down from anywhere on the screen (except the status bar, which would bring down the notifications).

Installed this morning, download took about 20 minutes, install about 5. I like it (iPhone 5).

Had to restore, which involves activating my iPad, which doesn't work since the servers are down. Nice one.

A couple of questions about this:

1. Is iTunes 11.1 absolutely necessary? I revolted when they released v11 and revamped the interface, and have retrograded back to 10.6 (I think). Is there a way to get the iOS7 update without iTunes 11.1?

2. Is iOS7 worthless on an iPhone 4? It's 3-year old hardware, so I wonder whether it can handle it, performance-wise. Anyone have a real-world experience to draw on?

ALTRON: Possible dumb question but can the update be downloaded over 3G ?

Not dumb, but iPhone iOS7 download size is 720MB, iPad is 900MB.

It doesn't work without 11.1. I'm stuck on 10.7 (which is stupidly still offering me the iOS 7 update) due to incompatibility so I feel your pain!

I have also had a problem with iTunes

Just connected to comp and got message up

" The iphone cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 11.1 or later. Go to www.itunes.com/uk to dowmload the latest version of iTunes"

Everything was up to date prior to downloading.

I'm wondering about updating to iTunes 11.1, downloading the iOS7 update, updating the phone, and then uninstalling iTunes 11.1 and going back to iTunes 10. Unless this is going to cause problems with future syncs...?

What about OTA updating to iOS7, via wifi? Or is that too painful to contemplate?

I'm keen to hear how it performs on an iPhone 4. No doubt my dad will be calling me today to ask if he should upgrade.

It won't synch unless you're on 11.1.

No issues updating my 5 to iOS 7 this morning. Went smoothly.

So far enjoying it, have hit no frustrations. Nice look to it, love the looks of the mail client. Will give the iPad an update tonight but no drama here.
