Paul1977: Back in March I predicted NZ$1799 for the 42mm Black Stainless Steel, which would have been an insanely expensive price. However, not as insanely expensive as the actual NZ$1949 that it is.

Umm it is simple math:

U.S. Price for Black SS 42mm - $1099 USD

Convert to NZ dollars at current exchange rate of 65c:, then add 15% GST = $1944 NZD

This means Apple is making a whole $5 premium on the NZ version - OH THE HORROR!!!

Why does an insane US price make the NZ price any less insane?

Answer: it doesn't - NZ$1949 for a watch that will be outdated in less than a year is insane.

I appreciate the condescension though.

You realise there are literally hundreds of stainless steel watches from dozens of different brands that cost several thousand dollars?

And guess what - all those other premium stainless steel watches do is tell the time. You buy an Apple watch and in ten years time it will still be able to tell the time, as well as do a whole lot more. Saying it will be "outdated" is completely meaningless.

I have a first generation iPod nano - and guess what: a decade later it still does exactly what it did the day I bought it. is it outdated compared to todays models? absolutely! does it fail in its job to do the same things i bought it to do? absolutely not!+

reading posts like yours will be absolutely hilarious in 5 years time.

At some point, the device will fail, completely. Lithium batteries and flash memory both have quite short life expectancies.

the battery is replaceable - and 3rd party sites already say that the internal electronics  will also likely be able to be replaced when newer generations arrive. Theoretically if you purchase a premium version now for thousands of dollars - you could upgrade its innards every few years by buying the latest cheap Sport edition and having these third parties swapping the battery & electronics.

I guess if you were spending a lot of money, that might be worth it.

if you were getting the gold editions maybe, but then if you are buying those you can probably afford to just buy one every few years.

in fact the high price steel ones are only so high because of the matching machine milled link bracelet - you can always just reuse the link bracelet on an updated steel model and save yourself half the cost.

Unless you want the black one, which you can only buy with the black stainless strap.

If the second gen has GPS I would consider purchasing, without GPS they are too expensive for what you get in my opinion.

It would be nice to be able to use it as a standalone device for jogging without having to rely on the GPS from your phone.

the Watch "learns" your Jogging routine - so after a few sessions you can use it without the phone and it gives you an accurate reading of distance run etc.

I've used watches from polar and Nike that "learn" your stride etc, never as accurate as a proper sports watch with GPS.

Anyone, who ordered last Friday, received a "your watch has shipped" notification yet? Mine is still "preparing to ship".

I'm like a kid before Christmas :0)

My order still says a 4/8 delivery date. Will be surprised if I get it by then given that it is still "preparing to ship".

Received a notification that mine has shipped at about 2015. Airway bill doesn't have any info yet so I don't know from where it's shipping, presumably Australia or China. Date remains the 5th. Yay!
