scuwp: Done kids iPad2.  Did it OTA and it took nearly 1.5 hrs but all seems well.  My impression is it is a bit zippier.

I am interested in how this goes for your iPad 2. I held off installing iOS 8 after reports of it turning the ipad2 into a dog. If iOS 9 gives it a new lease of life, all the better. I recognize that it is getting long in the tooth in tech terms, and in fact was quite surprised when it was included in the list of devices able to be upgraded.

Paul1977: So when I left home this morning my iPhone popped up a message that said "16 minutes to work in normal traffic", but I'm pretty sure there is nothing on my phone that indicates where I work... what sorcery is this?

It has done that for a while (since they put in that pull down notifications screen).
I think it works out where you work from where you spend most of your time between say 9 and 5 on weekdays. It does the same for me, and is pretty accurate (It even knows that I can't drive directly to work - have to catch a ferry).

The new search screen ((-1 from home screen) is supposed to have nearby places (just above the news feed).  Mine doesn't (iPhone 5).

The search in maps is also supposed to have nearby places - again mine does not.  I cannot find any way to enable this feature.  Any ideas?

I only just installed iOS 8 on iPad2 a couple of weeks ago, it was not much different to iOS7, in that the keyboard still lagged and those minor niggles.  I'd install iOS 9 now anyway, just because more and more apps will not be supporting the older iOS anymore.

According to this link nearby places is not available here.
USA and China only

Is that correct or is this feature working for you?

Handle9: iPad and iPhone updated. Slideover is rather nice on the iPad.

l live on my iPad (although wouldn't call myself a power user) but really like Slideover and particularly the split screen function. At this stage thinking I may not use them much - but given they're available will probably find them increasingly useful.

It's super clever. It learnt I had Uni Monday and Tuesday between 1 and 8.30pm, and work from 8-6pm thurs and Friday. Also eventually learnt I went to the same cafe every Saturday for breakfast with my partner then to the mall after.

I swear I check that page more than the weather just because of how useful it is to figure out when to leave home.

Thanks for commenting on your experience. Since none of the new multitasking features work on the the iPad 2 the upgrade will be for app compatibility only by the look of things. I have had pop up windows and split screen in other tablets for a couple of years and don't really use them that much so it's no biggy not having it on the iPad.

Had a weird issue today where I couldn't slide up the panel from the bottom of the screen (the one containing wifi/bluetooth toggles, playback controls, AirPlay etc). Attempts to do so caused the phone to be unresponsive for several seconds. I had to reboot to resolve.

I noticed this after switching to low power mode, but that may be a red herring.

DONT UPGRADE DIRECTLY FROM iOS7 to iOS9!!  You will likely brick your device requiring a DFU reboot and restore.
Gets stuck in a "Slide to Upgrade" freeze near end of update.
Chuck in an iOS8 in there somewhere and you should be good

Thanks for the warning. The ios8 upgrade notification was still sitting under settings. Can I just select that first? I'd iOS clever enough to not offer 9 if 8 isn't installed. At worst if I back up to iTunes I assume I could do a factory reset, or is that not the case?

I deleted my iOS8 update of the ipad, silly boy. I would give that a go first.
Think I might have got it going, got pissed off and took out cable while it was reinstalling for the third time and got it on 9 and is currently restoring from the iOS7 backup.
Should be good in "24 mins" in time for kids to get home from school

Installed on an iPhone 6 and an iPad mini 3 - great upgrade, not sure I really like the new font, but the big plus for me on both is Safari content blocking. I've installed Marco Ament's Peace and it has transformed web access. Lots of nice little updates in other places but that's the only really compelling thing so far.
