dickytim: Anyone else finding wireless charging very slow?
My phone barely increases in charge with an hour on my wireless charger.
It is a 7.5w one.

The only thing I REALLY don't like is how cumbersome closing background apps is.
It is unnecessary to close background apps. iOS is extremely efficient at managing resources.
I know it's meant to be efficient, but I don't like having 30 things in the app switcher. I just want to have the 3 or 4 things I use a lot to be in the app switcher.
First world problem, but I don't see why once you've invoked the gesture to get into the app switcher why they added an extra step to close apps that isn't required on any other iPhone.
Had the iPhone X for a little over a week coming for a regular iPhone 7.

Other:
If you are coming off a Plus model that you have been happy with it there is not much to dislike about the X.
If coming from a non-Plus model I would suggest a hands on first before you commit.
For me personally the pros outweigh the cons and I wouldn’t go back to my 7 or swap for an 8. But for me it's not a home run.

Other:
- Animojis don’t work well in poor lighting conditions. Not putting this as a con because they are an inconsequential gimmick. However it is surprising that FaceID works so well in any lighting condition, yet Animojis don’t.
Thanks for a great review Paul - I decided to buy iPhone 8 Plus instead due to its battery life and having no 'horn' as you called it. I thought the only difference was going to be the OIS on zoom camera but I hear the photo quality is superior on X which is my only regret of not getting the X.
Your comment on animoji is interesting - because when some reviewers tried it with 3D camera / infrared sensor blocked it still worked. So at the moment it is only using your front camera to generate the animoji. Just like you say it's a gimmick and function limitation that Apple deliberately puts on to increase the sale of X. This is probably the reason why it doesn't work well in poor lighting conditions.
None the less - it seems like the X is more accomplished than I thought it would be of a first generation of its new form. I will wait for the X2.

Can't remember where I read it, but I actually read that the side-by-side cameras on the 8 Plus do portrait mode better than the over-under configuration on the X. So seems to vary depending on who is reviewing them.
Just ordered mine! Trying to find a screen protector - does anyone have any suggestions or did they end up going without? Some of the reviews are just all over the place so I can't quite decide...

Fast wireless charging not enabled until ios11.2.
Thanks for that, I thought that 7.5w was considered normal charging, hopefully this will help when 11.2 I released.
I did seriously consider selling my iPhone X for a premium and getting an 8+ instead.
I think I'd be disappointed going back to touch ID though, and that boat has sailed as the iPhone X lead time is down to 1-2 weeks now.

I've never used a screen protector on a phone before - but I feel it might be wise with this phone so I installed one of these tempered glass protectors on my X:
https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/MPPSGP22105/Spigen-iPhone-X-Premium-Tempered-Glass-Screen-Prot
However, didn't buy the single-pack from PB Tech for $39 - I got a twin-pack of the same product via Amazon US for NZ$21 incl shipping. Took two weeks to arrive but you can get it quicker if you want to pay higher shipping cost:
Happy with the product - it doesn't seem to affect screen sensitivity at all.
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I've never bothered with a screen protector (or case for that matter). Ruins the look and feel of the phone.

I guess for a $2K phone it should be protected.

Agree. I used to use a case that had a lip, and I looked after it. These days I use a folio case, even better for protection and great for sitting it open on landscape

True and I have done similar in the past - but here we have glass front and back. Youch!
The glass back is a lot grippier in your hand than the slippery aluminium of the 6 and 7 though, so I feel like I'm less likely to drop a naked X than I was my 7.
The way I justify it to myself is: I am less likely to drop it, but more likely to crack some glass if I do - so they cancel each other out!
