2 ways..

connect via wifi and actually go to the website from the phone (normal way)
sync with iphones your emails and email yourself the file *this allows you to apply/remove when needed)

In Sydney now with AUS VF SIM, and try to reapply the profile and get the following message when I try to Install Profile as saved in my Mail on phone:

Profile failed to install
The format of the APN information is incorrect.

My iPhone cannot connect to internet to get a new version from site... nor collect mail.
I will get to a wifi spot later and try, but do you have any ideas on this.  It was intermittent forms of success last month, so not sure if it is 2.01 causing the issue.

edit: reset the phone and removed existing profiles.  Used the AppleStore Sydney network to get access and download fresh profile again and all seems to be repaired.

I have a problem..my data suddenly started working tonight without any VPN installed. 99% of time I use wifi and the other 1% i will load unlockit.co.nz fake VPN then remove it when finished. I have my mail set for hourly automatic fetch which is great for for wifi and it never tries away from wifi because no VPN installed. Tonight however I notice I had mail downloaded and I can data download (without getting pdp? failure) data. Do you know any reason for this and is there a way to stop it?

Regards

Kevin

Someone else just noted that as well.. since today...

lets try. www.iphone-vodafone.net.nz.. (from a normal 3G Phone (not iphone).. data works

hmm.. connects.. and can view webpages..

lets try www.iphone-vodafone.net.nz (from a normal 2G Phone (not iphone).. data works..

lets try an invalid random APN.. data works on 3G and 2G!!

must of been a change today..

So how to disable data??? errrrr.. umm..errrr.... you can't!!!!!!

The only way  to disable data now is ( and I have tested this and it stops data ) is to use a valid Corporate vodafone APN with a invalid username/password

Go Go vodafone!

Thanks
Craig

just another note..
it must be a bug or a feature..
but on the vodafone website...

NOTE: To access the web you require a Broadband Plan for Mobile (Only available with an On Account plan).

which is not true (at the moment)

I've tried it just now... and it connects without having data plan...
so i am assuming that you dont have to have use the unlock.co.nz profile to gain access.... which is handy...

but the main question i would like to ask to you users out there... who have more knowledge than i do with this new toy...
by having fetch /push data as off and email to manually update... would this allow no data transfers happening in the back ground?? and therefore wont be charged with huge as data bill later on? :)

if someone could kindly lend their thinkings on this would be much appreciated.

thanks.

If all else fails and you want no data permanently, call vodafone and they can put a barr on all data. Thats wat i ended up doing with my first gen iPhone. Just couldnt seem to get rid of all background data.

On the other hand side, I used GPRS/EDGE for a long time on my super old sim in my iPhone for free. Never figured out why this was. I pretty sure vodafone does have an EDGE network in new zealand but its just used for business.

Vodafone doesn't have an EDGE network here in NZ, they skipped that step and went straight to 3G

You are talking about v2 firmware aren't you?

I am on 1.1.4 and BossPrefs - EDGE off is still working for me.

Thank God I'm still on v1 and still can turn data on and off at will.

Thanks for the fix, it works well!

I am wanting to update the firmware of my iPhone to v2.1. I shouldn't have any problems? ie, the fix should still work?

Thanks.

Works with any V2.X software, but don' tell anyone but under 2.1 they actually allow you to change the APN in NZ. I guess vodafone asked apple to remove this restriction and everyone was using my website in the past :-)

(unless vodafone want to make an official announcement why it was made editable in 2.1 I'll blame it on me) (other countries who the APN was made uneditable orginally  are still uneditable and those countries still are using my website) :-)

Thanks
Craig

I just got an iphone yesterday with only a voice plan, i downloaded this block off unlockit.co.nz. So i went to check if the internet was blocked, but when i clicked safari, the last visited page i went on with wifi popped up. But when i refreshed a message popped up saying "could not connect...blah blah blah"
then i went to check my usage counter, the counter went up and im not sure if im going to get charged for this, help please!
