Loismustdye: For those that have an Apple TV does the plex app and the sky sport app (for the rugby World Cup) not require casting?
These would be our two main uses for it at this stage and I really don’t want to have to cast from another device in order to watch something on the tv.
Thanks

I’m thinking you mean Spark Sport app?

Ah yep, sorry, force of habit when talking sport.

I have bought the 4k version even though I dont have 4k tv yet.  Was waiting for the Nvidia Shield and the shiled is okay but no tv3 ondemand and no loudness equalization so always turning sound up and down  Trying to cats tv3 tha app always crashed.  So bought the Apple TV 4K.  Wished I did it long ago. Has reduce loud noises so now I set sound and can leave it there and hear everything easy, it does a fantastic job. The picture quality is amazing too and I find better than the shield on my 5 year old Samsung TV.  Just 2 gripes with the Apple TV 4.  No siri (the google assistant is amazing on shield)  the other is horrible remote. Just like phones the remote has hard time registering my finger on the screen to scroll around.  Willl be looking at a logitech remote. Alas cant do anything about siri and just hope enable it for NZ in future update

Make sure you set up an apple id for each country you are interested in watching overseas TV . There is a lot of great free content and really easy to change the DNS settings. I brought a Logitech Harmony 350 for the Apple TV but use it for Xbox , Blu-ray, amp and TV great remote for around 40 bucks. Enjoy the new Apple TV great device .there are some posts on here about siri as well if I log into AU apps I get option to use Siri but have never tired it but reading the posts by others looks possible

We have NZ, UK, USA and Australian iTunes accounts setup on the AppleTV 4K.

We usually leave it set to USA so we can use siri - which works well. As previously discussed, apps from all accounts are displayed all the time, and the ATV remembers the login details so switching back to NZ if we need to is easy.

More content in the USA iTunes store and TV rentals are available too.

The iPhone remote app is worth downloading - if you need to enter text in the search box (which is fiddly using the remote) the iPhone senses this and launches the remote app on the phone so you can use a keyboard.

Thanks for the suggestions, will have to look into it.  I had to update my Apple ID as I havent used it for years.  I had very first Ipad released but then switched to Android.  Was surprised my Apple ID was still available and just had to update it.

The Apple TV is great for security since you dont have to expose the infrequently updated 'smart' tv to the internet, while ios/tvos update comes out just about every month.
Stu1: the other is horrible remote. Just like phones the remote has hard time registering my finger on the screen to scroll around.

Yeah the remote is really badly designed where it's almost impossible to tell which end is which when you pick it up.

However you can mitigate it by getting the remote loop
https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MR662AM/A/remote-loop

and a case like this
https://www.amazon.com/elago-Technology-Anti-Slip-Absorption-Generation/dp/B01B5RF470/

So you know exactly which end is which when you pick it up.

The remote is what I hate with the Apple TV4.  Most of time it doesnt register my finger. I bought a Harmony 350 and dont like that either.  I ended up buying the old silver Apple TV3 remote and so far couldnt be happier.  Just use the Samsung TV remote for volume. Only had it a day but really happy so far

I used another remote control to make a copy of all the key functions of the Apple TV remote. This is easily done from the settings menu: Remotes and devices: Learn remote. This not only gives you a back up remote but enables you to have a separate key for each function, as with "old style" remotes.

Well, I went ahead and got the 4k Apple TV and so far so good.

We are using Netflix, Spark Sports, TVNZ and Three apps.

Are there any good apps for watching free movies? Im also looking for an app to watch the Europa League if anyone can suggest one (ideally free as well).

Thanks for all your help so far!

I have two Apple TV 4K boxes. I am mainly a movie watcher and buy or rent most of my movies from iTunes. You can also buy from the new Apple TV app.

I don't mind the remote. Its a bit fiddly, but it works for me. If you have an iPhone or iPad, you can use either of those instead via the remote app.

One thing that I don't like is that the US iTunes store has a lot more movie titles in Dolby Vision/HDR10/Dolby Atmos than we get here in NZ. Disney titles however, are in HD in all iTunes regions, because Apple and Disney can't reach an agreement on the pricing of Disney 4K movies.

If anyone knows how I can set up a US iTunes account without a US credit card and address, please let me know.

I'm sure you can just set up an account and when it gets to payment, say skip it.  I believe you can do it on a phone.  I can't remember doing it on a browser, that might be trickier.

You can set up an account with no credit card - I can't quite remember but have a feeling I had to do that via iTunes on a computer to get that options. Google and you will find instructions.

Easy to switch between US and NZ accounts on the Apple TV once set up. You can buy US iTunes gift cards on line and they send you the code - just redeem them in iTunes to top up your account.

We've used the above method for a few years and had no issues.
