I’m going to get the remote by itself. It’s got a mute switch which is the only feature I care about.

Is it worth an upgrade from the previous gen Apple TV 4K? My feeling at this stage is no, but would love to get that new remote.

Not enough there to sway me from my ATV4K, I don't use the gaming side, my TV and AVR already do Dolby Vision and Atmos through the apple tv and My TV is limited to 60fps so the higher frame rate is a non issue.

The remote looks nice though but again not enough to make me want it. Also being the same form factor is cool

Apple says it is capable of High Frame Rate HDR, yet it only seems to be capable of up to 60fps. I'm assuming they plan to patch it in later, otherwise why go to the trouble of adding the extra bandwidth of an HDMI 2.1 port?

Good to see the price hasn't gone up though.

I'm not a big TV person so I'll stick with my four year old Apple TV HD, but I will definitely buy the new remote for it.

Also interesting higher framerates are mostly pushed for gaming, where as in TV and much more so in movies there has been push backs to having movie frame rates at native 24fps. Higherframe rates would be good for fast moving sports etc but that would be limited by the sport network and I definitely cant see SKY or Spark doing 120fps anytime soon

We have an ATV 4K on our LG C8 upstairs. Will likely buy the new ATV for our LG C9 downstairs - which doesn't have an ATV. Sounds like it will work well with the C9's HDMI 2.1. I like the idea of the TV calibration via iPhone - bit like Sonos TruePlay for your TV. It will be interesting to see how well it works. And the new remote finally looks decent compared to the POS current one.

Beaten to it by Djshadow but here it is anyway:

NEW Apple TV 4K 6th Generation -  Apple (NZ)

The only question I have is "Does Siri now work in NZ"?? The Tech spec say it does.

YES and I am buying. I have waited long enough.

Probably not worth the upgrade if you already have the previous release. But I’m a sucker for new tech. So, I should get at least $150 for my present model, Leaving only $150 to extract from my piggy bank 😬

No. Next week's event is most likely to be 90% about iPad and 10% about AirTags/other.

I still don't understand what everyone wants from a new Apple TV – is it just 8K that's missing?

Just quoting myself before anyone else gets the chance – guess I was (happily) proven wrong today!

Will definitely be buying the new Siri remote, but other than that I think my existing ATV4K is fine for now.

They have taken the old 4 k models off the site now, was hoping they will sell them off as clearance . I wonder if there will be limited stock similar to the Xbox or PlayStation releases

Just realised that the new iPhone TV calibration feature isn't exclusive to the new ATV - it's coming out as part of tvOS 14.5 and iOS 14.5 next week and will run on existing models of ATV (ATV 4K and ATV HD).

I smell gimmick. It will be interesting to see how effective it really is when proper calibrators can put it to the test.

I'm relatively new to the Apple eco-system, having recently purchased an iPhone 12 and iPad Air.

I'm considering the new Apple TV, but just want to check a few things first.

Although I will take the free year on Apple TV, I'm not really interested in streaming TV as Netflix fully meets our needs.

So am interested in it primarily for Airplay and screen mirroring.

Re Airplay, once I have Apple TV, can I use Airplay for the YouTube app or will I still need to use Chromecast? If Airplay, will the Airplay icon appear alongside Chromecast icon?

Apart from screen mirroring, photo viewing and Airplay, are there any other Apple TV features that may be of use that I'm not aware of yet?

Apple TV has it's own app store so you'll be able to download apps like youtube, netflix etc onto the device so you won't need to airplay anything to your tv (unless you want to). You can also play games on it. It's kind of like a big iphone, without the phone type functions and it can be used independently from a phone.
