Although they are all undoubtedly new and exciting - and the battery life in particular a useful thing to have - I am not really swayed just yet.

I think next year's offerings with the M2 and/or M3 chips will be the better choices; also I assume that there will be native versions of key software applications by then with more kinks ironed out.

At present I have little need for a mobile computer and screen improvements would be more likely to get me to move from my iMac Pro rather than theoretical speed improvements that probably wouldn't dramatically alter my experience. For example a 30" screen with HDR compatibility and full photography colour space reproduction like BenQ make would tempt me. My iMac has a 10 Core Xeon, 64GB of RAM and 4TB of SSD so it's perfectly fast enough for photo and video editing already.

Give me the screen with performance that is no slower and I might jump to the new model!

I use mobile computing a lot. My laptops get a good working out as does my iPad Pro. I have been moving away from Windows for a while now and my only remaining Windows device is a Surface Laptop 3. The MacBook Air is a form factor I like, it lightweight, easy to deal with and of course has MacOS however up until now they have been less than what I was wanting by way of performance. I have resisted the MacBook Pro series as I want to avoid their extra heft be not that great but enough to put me off. The new MacBook Air by all reviews would appear to resolve the performance criteria and some.

The new Air is very, very tempting - but have no need for it currently. Eagerly watching the future of the M1, especially considering how much it can improve as well as wanting to see how a Mac Pro would pan out with these chips.

I agree; the Air is the most tempting but if I bought it, it would just be as a toy really and it is not cheap enough to do that.

Ordered an M1 Macbook Air earlier on in the week without thinking about cyber weekend deals, turns out there weren't any on the Air anyway, except for maybe PBTech who had it on sale at $90 off but with a shipping date of Dec 24 it wouldn't arrive till after xmas, so no regret.

MaxTech on youtube did some extensive testing including heavy multitasking and found the unified memory on the M1 is super efficient, with the 8GB M1 performing like a 16GB intel model and the 16GB M1 performing like a 32GB Intel, so I ordered the base model Macbook Air to replace my Wife's 2019 Macbook Pro, she should get better performance, longer battery life, less heat, and no noise, but loses the touchbar (no loss).

When it arrives I'll test against my own 13" MBP before deciding if I'll also go for an M1 macbook too, but based on reviews and benchmarks I'm thinking an M1 MBA may also be sufficient for me, which is just a weird concept.

I pulled the trigger on Friday for Christmas present for my wife this will be the first Mac I have used since PowerPC days so really looking forward to the MacBook Air M1.

JB HiFi had them on sale Friday morning for Cost +GST but the page was gone by lunch time. I haggled with Noel Leeming and got them to price match this if I bought the extended warranty that wanted anyway. Also as the stock won't be in for a couple of weeks if there are any lower priced offers they will price match these also. So really happy with the purchase.
