I had to go to the Whanganui Hospital the other day big car park. I have a black car fairly late model. After my appointment came out and stood in the sea of black white and grey cars and thought now there is a good idea for a airtag!. Must try it sometime.

Your iPhone should already automatically record the location of your car when it disconnects from the bluetooth/Carplay.

On another note I read a comment the other day saying attaching your air tag to anything visible is an invite saying "you want $50? Here you go". They were suggesting one should disguise the tag. Made me rethink my one swinging on my keyring.

I would have thought that a stolen Airtag would be useless unless reset by the originally registered iCloud account?

Regarding stolen ait tags

apple said

We can reset the AirTag only if it is removed from the Apple ID. An AirTag can be associated with one Apple ID. If you want to use an AirTag that someone else has used, they need to remove the AirTag from their Apple ID first.

Reality check. My $6 Aliexpress Airtag key ring arrived this week. I was about to head off to buy an Airtag, then thought … how many times over the last 20 years have I permanently lost my car keys. Answer, none. So begs the question, are Airtags a $55 solution looking for a problem?

I think it's a matter of probability and consequence. For me losing my keys is very low probability but very high consequence if it means that I get locked out of my house or stranded somewhere as a result of losing access to my vehicle.

Apart from keys I can't think of anything else that I would use them for.

I’m going to get them for my wife. She’s forever losing her stuff… 😂

I think of it as just another form of insurance that you hope you will never use
