That's why I was thinking Vodafone rather than Apple this time around. I'd much rather go to my local (ish) Vodafone and let them do all the couriering and all that and hopefully give me a replacement phone quick smart. Like immediately would be good. I mean hopefully I'll never need it but...

A big part of going iPhone over, say, a droid is being able to have a workable warranty.

I use my iPod so much I barely survived it's replacement turnaround time. A phone would be much worse.

All I can say is I don't recommend getting the WHITE one. Whatever you do, avoid it.

I've had nothing but trouble with the white ones cracking to no end.

They've had that problem with the white ones right from the first model especially around the jack plugs as I recall. No idea why- maybe they just show up better on the white ones?

Thanks, though, I'll make sure I get a black one. Sounds like they've been good about replacing it for you though?

WOW, I think you are having a HUGE run of bad lucks haha,

I had a 3g when they first came out and upgraded to a 3gs in December last year, and Ive only had one phone replaced. which was a White 3Gs due to a dead pixel

The problem is: no matter who you buy the iphone from, the end company dealing wth repairs / warranty, is Bright point. And that is where the problem is. You might get betetr service when you hand the broken phone in and when you pick it up, but unless there is a drastic change at Bright point, excpect several weeks for a replacement.

I love my iphone and would in general absolutely recommend it, but if you can't go 3 weeks without your phone, you either have to buy something else, buy two iphones, or hope yours never break in New Zealand...

yeah maybe I just have really bad luck. Because I treat these things better than I do my family.

Maybe they need a bit of tough love or something, i dunno.

Keep pushing. They have no right to deny you a replacement if its under warranty and there is no impact damage.

That's the most crap excuse I've heard by far. You bought a product, brand new, with NO cracks. Why should you have to give that up, especially for something you're paying over $1,000 for.

I'm sick of brightpoint already, and haven't even talked to them yet.

Yeah agree with that, but the basis will be is it useable, and the causation of the cracks. Pretty hard to pursue that I would have thought. Doesnt mean you arent entitled to a replacement. But "reasonable" is pretty subjective.

Back on topic, I see some people on Twitter having the same problem. At the end of the day this needs to be clarified.

From what I understood all iPhone repairs had to go through Vodafone, regardless of where you bought your device from a New Zealand reseller.

It seems Vodafone stores don't know what the rules are, and Apple doesn't make it clear anywhere what are those rules.

It would be good if Paul could post a definitive answer, please?
