Paul any chance you and Apple could come to some kind of arrangement to "zero-rate" these activation SMSs?

That's a question for the service provider. You'll need to ask them.

I bought my iPhone from Vodafone retail. Would have thought this enquiry would be entertained at least from an after sales service point of view especially given the agreements in place between Vodafone and Apple.

It's a question for the service provider. Vodafone has nothing to do with FaceTime. See my earlier response - it is not our service to set prices/processes etc.

PaulBrislen: I am the twitter rep. ;-)

I think you'll find that the song linked to was played by Apple at the Apple announcement...

Cheers

Paul

This song "the iphone 4 antenna song" was played at Apple special press conference regarding their iphone 4 antenna problem on July.  The song has nothing to do with the cost of face time activation.

The song ended with a chorus "if you don't want an iphone 4, don't buy it. If you bought one and you don't like it, bring it back,".  The was the message from Steve Jobs, HE represents Apple.

Please, correct me if I'm Wrong about this. The definition of the word "Representative" - a person chosen or appointed to ACT or SPEAK for another or others, in particular an employee of a firm who sell its products.

When a Vodafone Rep post on the official Vodafone Twitter "It's 20c" then was hyperlinked to this music video which has nothing to do with the face time.  Is it implying if we are not happy with the face time charges, we can take it back to Vodafone within 30 days and get a full refund no question asked??

I really don't see what the issue is here. If you have an app on any device whether it be PC Mac Linux or any mobile os and one of the features or processes causes you as a user a charge or unwanted usage, is it the person charging you at fault?or is it the maker of the app that is generating the charge or unwanted usage.

My views are mine and don't necessarily reflect that of my employer.

Yep... If there is a complaint it should be directed to Apple. They decided to use the SMS authentication, Vodafone charges for SMS. As I see it Apple is at fault.

Just complete the prolonged survey  by Apple regarding my recent iphone service experience at my local Mobile Telecommunications Provider.

I suggest everyone should complete it and place the complaint to Apple as Vodafone claims this is a question for the service provider.

If the person/ company charging me is also the one selling me the product with agreement as the exclusive provider/ carrier of the manufacturer, then yes, I think it is the person/ company's responsibility/ fault when problems occur. They should be the one trying to sort out what the best solution is for their customers instead of asking the customers to go and deal with the problems themselves. This is simply shocking customer service that should not be accepted.

Just to give some perspective: O2 have given bulk refunds to all customers affected by this.

I think the Vodafone customers on this forum would like some service like this: https://imgur.com/1oSqC.png. At the moment they're being told "It's not our issue, talk to Apple." What They would like to hear is "It's not our issue, we'll get in touch with Apple for you and see what we can sort out."

The main point here is that despite this being Apple's (poorly written) software causing the problem; Vodafone's customers do not have a contract with Apple. The contract with Apple is between Apple and Vodafone. Vodafone's customers have a right to expect Vodafone to go to bat for them on this issue.

If you downloaded an app for your phone that send chargeable SMS's from your phone without advising it was doing so would you blame your mobile carrier or the company that produced the app?

They should have posted 0800-MY-APPLE on their iPhone support page http://www.vodafone.co.nz/iphone/support/
