Great news khaos999. It would seem we both recieved units with the same fault! Here's hoping to a weekend with the iPhone back. :-)

He's just the messenger isn't he? The messenger passes on what they're supposed to.
Corporate face/mouthpiece etc, not necessarily the strategist calling the shots?

Im sure Paul is a great guy and does what he can within the "rules" to help people out on these forums.

It is just sad that Vodafone/Apple have treated the NZ public, who had an interest in parting with their hard earned cash, as complete and utter fools.

Imagine if this had happened in the USA or even Aussie....

Unfortunately the beef seems to be with VF's communication over the launch period.

Pauls title of "Head of Corporate Communications" makes him an obvious target.

Wikipedia quoteth "Corporate communication serves as the liaison between an organization and its publics. Organizations can strategically communicate to their audiences through public relations and advertising. This may involve an employee newsletter or video, crisis management with the news media, special events planning, building product value and communicating with stockholders, clients or donors."

Communication failures are:

- Asking people to join a mailing list with the promise of sending more info - then not.
- Removing references to iPhone from the website without explanation just before launch.
- Knowing there are people queuing outside your stores in freezing dark conditions when there is a supply problem, and not informing them.
- Locking forum discussions without giving answers.
- Sending people on the above mentioned list that the product is available from 12pm.... at 3:30pm once stock has been sold.

I have no doubt that Apple have broken supply promises and treated Vodafone with arrogance and contempt. That is their corporate culture and will probably never change.

Be better than them. Rise above. Open up. Be honest. Admit mistakes. Build trust. Enhance brand. Reconnect. And stop trying to lock me into a 24 month contract. That's SO 2003. ;)

biggest gripe with VF forums, if discussion does not suit... it is deleted or discussion locked. Understand moderation when comments are inappropriate, defamatory etc, but where a customer voices a valid opinion and it is shut down, sounds a little too controlled for online communities and to foster sharing of experiences.

Not exactly true.

We do not delete threads or comments unless they're spam or are defamatory (or some other legal construct - haven't come across any yet but never say never).

We lock threads when:

there are more than one on the same subject;
the discuss has gone nowhere and has descended into personal abuse;
the discussion has ceased (GZ does this automatically after 30 days - we do it manually).

I have a very strict policy for the VF forum: if you wouldn't say it in front of my grandmother I don't want you to say it on the site. It's a site where anyone can get help and support using the products and services and the words "you must be new here, moron" are not tolerated. I'm intolerant of intolerance usually but for that kind of rubbish I'll make an exception.

Can we give you answers every time? No. As I've said here, I'm not at liberty to enter into a discussion about the launch, what happened or to point fingers and lay blame.

I'm happy to discuss just about anything (and frequently do) both here, on the VF Forum, Facebook and Twitter but there are some things I can't discuss so I won't.

Ok - so I have received the replacement phone, got it home, and it's a 16Gb model - not a 32Gb model!

Now no one is answering the phone at the Queen Street store.

To say I am frustrated is an understatement...

Sigh. Have to give them the phone before they will send out the proper 32Gb replacement.
Another trip into Auckland city.
Another 2-3 days delay.
So frustrating!

Turns out the phone I received was another customer's replacement - and they are walking around with the 32Gb model.

Can anyone advise best way to ask for some sort of account credit due to the run around?

Politely and with justification and reason on your side.

Less parts to stock only 1 back plate not 2 less chance of phones being labeled wrong.
