Re installed iTunes on comp now working fine.

This is all good as i was worried that the phone would not work as it was purchased in China for me. But seems the worries are over.

Seems to chew the battery though and running slightly warmer?

Lizard1977: Unless this is going to cause problems with future syncs...?

It won't synch unless you're on 11.1.

If you don't need to connect your iPhone/iPad to sync content from iTunes, ie. if you do everything via iCloud and other cloud services, then you can downgrade back to iTunes 10.*

If you manually sync content from iTunes by the sync option, or drag and drop, or if you manage your apps from itunes rather than on the local device, then you must have 11.1 otherwise the device won't be recognised in iTunes.

By the way - you can revert iTunes 11 back to the old layout from iTunes 10 very easily, and also revert the new search style to the old one.  So really there's no reason not to update iTunes.

Actually, there is. The inability to open playlists in separate windows like you could in iTunes 10. That is what has me stuck on 10.

Lizard1977: I'm wondering about updating to iTunes 11.1, downloading the iOS7 update, updating the phone, and then uninstalling iTunes 11.1 and going back to iTunes 10. Unless this is going to cause problems with future syncs...?

What about OTA updating to iOS7, via wifi? Or is that too painful to contemplate?

Juggalo28 - no performance hit on your iPhone 4?

once set up with everything it the same as normal. perfomance is good im currently playng around, much nicer than my n9.
Still getting used to new layout , love the password now on you find your iphone , makes it harder to steal. I say if you can update go for it you wont be dissapointed.

Sorry for the noob question first time I have had to update an I device, what is the difference between updating via iTunes and OTA? and do all the apps/ userdata stay intact?

josephhinvest:When you open a folder, it displays a 3x3 grid of icons, with multiple pages. So if you want the app that was previously at the bottom of your 20 icon folder in iOS 6, you now have to swipe twice to get to the same app. It's a PITA. All the iPad screen real estate is wasted.

Just noticed this... absolutely horrible, why on earth would they have done this?

iOS7 is OK -- but, I'm thinking this folder thing is a large backward step -- maybe enough to want me to go back to iOS 6 (if possible).    It makes it very difficult to see what you actually have in a folder just by opening it.

Is it possible to use iCloud to get "your own" content on there (eg. songs ripped from CD)? I was under the impression that it only worked for stuff bought from iTunes.

It's not the layout that I'm worried about (although I can't figure out how to stop 11 from clearing search results when you switch between Library and Store). In my case I rely on a third-party app that doesn't work with 11.

ajobbins: I'm keen to hear how it performs on an iPhone 4. No doubt my dad will be calling me today to ask if he should upgrade.

There's a reasonable video here on YouTube but its using the beta not final

It doesn't look too bad. I'm going to try it on my iPhone 4.
Even though Anand al shimpi of anandtech says in his 5s review that the 4 is basically to slow for most users on ios7

They do the same, but expanding on this, is either method better as in safer? I know OTA is shorter

Yep if you're using iTunes Match it is certainly possible.

What's the app?

OTA is only shorter for incremental releases.  For a full version release (ios 6 > ios 7) it will be a full image I think.  Then for 7.0.1 it will be delta changes only that get applied.

For iOS 7 I'd definitely do a iTunes update first, and probably go so far as to do a DFU restore and setting up as a new device without restoring a backup.  Then you know you've got a clean and fresh device.  Might take a little longer to get everything installed and configured but it's worth it.  It's what I did on my 4S with the Gold Master and it's been working a treat!

I don't have a subscription to Match, and even then I don't think it does videos.

I don't understand the significance of this question; telling you the name of the app (Requiem) won't suddenly make it work :)

Well I'm not out to solve your problems, I'm just saying it's technically possible to do these things without needing to use iTunes.

Also I'm just curious about the app you use - I like to know what works and doesn't work together, no need to be so touchy about it.

I'd be interested to know how to get back things like CoverFlow.  I gave v11 a go for a while, but I just found it too awkward - if there's a way to go back to the v10 layout, then I'd be a happy camper...
