dafman: I'm lucky to not have to pay for a phone, but if I did, I would probably max out at around $700 - for a couple of reasons: 1. Drop/break risk is high with a phone, 2. Life cycle doesn't extend beyond 2-years (for me).
So, a $2,000 phone, out of the question.
Assuming a 2 year life (before I hand a phone on to someone else), that's $20 per week just to own a nice phone. Even a 3 year life is $13 per week. That's enough to make you think twice about it.
If my phones were paid for out of a family savings account, I would own a sub-$500 phone.
