aimsy007: That depends Paul!  Be nice if we had some more info re the release e.g. 12:01am or 9:00am.  Also what is the guarantee that those who line up will get one?

So many questions and so little answers.

Yeah I'm with you on this one. I don't want to have to line up early on a winter's morning (especially with me being in Dunedin that week!). If there ISN'T enough stock for initial demand then it would also be nice to get an idea on lead times of replacement stock too?

I'm keen to get one but would like to go in on my own time on the 11th with some sort of guarantee that there is likely to be enough stock!

Pah, we could just create some wild speculation to hurry vodafone up!

There will only be enough phones for 16 people in each line.
The cost will be $858 on pre pay. $350 on 24 month contract.

I'll line up! (If the New Market store has them, actually like the new store there, funky stuff!)

I hate line ups, but what the heck, never done that sort of thing before, reckon it will be a laugh and something to remember.

I have heard there were 5000 iPhone allocated to NZ and that most of these have been reserved for the top clients/rellesers, my bet is that less than half reach the stores for sale to the general public.

I also heard there are around 30,000 orders placed in nz already for the new iPhone.

ever wondered how Apple will capture back the "cracked" iphone revenue?

here is how I would do it in 4 easy steps.

1. Offer a free upgrade to version 2 firmware to all version 1 clients. (ooooh I want all the extra features.)
2. Offer more functionality in version 2, that also also happens to require the use of a selected cellular provider of Apple's choosing. (you could have a range of "iPhone only" cellular numbers that had access to the "special" features released in version 2. (this gets around any future hacks, as if your cellular number is not on the iPhone list, you don't get access to the special features provided by the cellular network.) ((just watch steve jobs video released a week or so ago, it's all there, if you read between the lines.))
3. Offer a fixed low price that also has a 24 month contract attached, along with an enforced data plan (kiss prepay goodbye)
4. Milk the cash cow that is iPhone Version 2.

That my 2 cents, and I love a good conspiracy theory.

That said, add me to the waiting list, cos I want one!

I think he's selling a place in line for the iPhone - he'll wait for you, then you just swap places.

I think that I will hire a homeless person (who is used to sleeping out in the cold) to hold my place in the line.  I will get them to set up this weekend to ensure a 'great' place in the line.

You can stop the exploitation of the homeless and the hungry by feeding the homeless to the hungry and solving both problems.

Apart from the rumours floating around in forums like these where is your source of this info?  I haven't heard anything about Apple or Vodafone only having only 5,000 units nor do I beleive that there is any avenue at the present time to pre order iPhones.
