I've worked out quite a few things now.. (extra options for V3.0 software for the 3G iphone for MMS/tethering)...

So coming soon...

- SSL Signed Profiles so you are 100% your profiles are coming from www.unlockit.co.nz.
- iPhone V3.0 Software settings for MMS and tethering
- VPN Settings
- More Carrier Settings (Contact Me If you have any confirmed carrier settings which work)
- Finishing off Installation instructions

ok.. I need someone to test a file for me which will set a few things (tethering,MMS,APN setttings for iPhone).. I have a 2G iphone and they cannot be tested.. so someone with a 3G Iphone running V3 Beta5 would be great..

Unfortunately Apple haven't released any DOCS on how to actually make a .mobileconfig file with all these settings on V3 but I think I have it "right" now..

I have put some test files up for V3 GM to enable tethering etc
I am doing it via trial and error (as I don't have a 3G Iphone ) :-(

Let me know if they do anything useful with screenshots

I too have a 1st Gen/2.5G iPhone and want to go up to 3.0.

Can you tell me what your website does for a GPRS/EDGE only phone?

Should I be able to block data if I change the APN to a dummy one? And will I need to use unlockit.co.nz in order to do this?

I haven't been able to find the post but a long time ago I am sure I saw a post from someone saying that they put a dummy APN in but it STILL was able to connect to VF internet and thus be charged. I cannot recall if that was for a 2G or 3G phone.

The problem was a number of months ago vodafone had a bug and it allowed people to connect even without the correct APN.. but it was only for a short amount of time.

Yes the "FakeAPN" will chanhe thte APN to an invalid one and just not work (as it has to be valid to connect and do data) (you can actually to it by hand in the iPhone Settings these days) but the most number of people who use my website are actually AU and CA people now :-)

Yes.. 1 Carrier in the AU is locked and in CA and other countries it is locked as well.. Only a few countries the iPhones have are unlocked and the Carrier APN is editable by default

Slightly off but related topic. The iPhone OS released today has an option under General > Network to disable data roaming. Isn't that basically the same as using a fake APN now? In other words, being able to use 3G for calls but leave data roaming off and you don't get charged?

It means if you are overseas and not on the Vodafone Network then data will be disabled..

technically I don't know how it works with Vodafone (or if it will work via Telecom) or other NZ Cellphone network providers

I'll give it a go. I'll re-enable the APN to a valid one and then disable data roaming, and keep an eye on my pre-pay account.

At a guess that would merely block access to "other than home network"?

Although what are other networks doing allowing access anyway?

if you're not on your home network, data access is disabled. This allows you to roam to say Aussie and the phone wont move any data.

Otherwise if you're on your home network data is enabled
