Bluetooth does work I managed to connect a Magic Mouse

Yes - but my point is: you can’t use a BT mouse and a BT keyboard and/or BT headphones all at the same time because you can only connect one BT device at a time.

I've used a Bluetooth keyboard and Bluetooth headphones at the same time with my iPad Pro 9.7

That’s genuinely interesting. Wonder how/why that works - will investigate.

Bluetooth isn't a one to one protocol. You can have multiple devices connected.

Eg I can use my watch and my car kit at the same time on my android phone. I can use a keyboard, headphones and the pencil on my iPad.

Yes - it seems I was wrong. Apparently you can connect and operate several devices to BT on iPad/iPhone at the same time. Seems it depends on the bandwidth of the devices. Things like Pencil, keyboard, and obviously now, mouse, are fine together. Sorry I spoke too soon and without actual knowledge.

What you can’t do is connect and operate two BT music machines e.g. speaker and AirPods at the same time - presumably because of the bandwidth demands. Saw a thing on YouTube where the guy had speakers and earphones both showing as connected to iPhone X with iOS 12 - but could only use one or the other at a time.

iOS 13 will enable two or more AirPods at the same time:

Discussion earlier in this thread was partly around the suitability of iPad as a daily substitute for Mac or MacBook Pro. Consensus was that iPad wasn’t really up to it.

That all seems to have changed hugely with announcement of iPadOS:

- BT mouse support
- ability to easily import files from (or export to) a USB stick or drive or memory card
- big changes in Photos app
- much more utility in the Files app, etc.

The distinguishing lines between iPad Pro and MBP - or at least MacBook Air - really are becoming blurred.

More so now that it’s been confirmed that many iOS/iPadOS apps will soon work on MacOS.

The mouse support doesn't seem to do much. You can pair a mouse but what can you actually use it for?

What is needed now is for someone like Logitech to put out an iPad Pro keyboard folio cover that includes a touchpad for cursor control. Betcha this happens before too long. It would be a killer product.

First thing that comes to mind is creating and editing spreadsheets - very difficult with a fat finger on an iPad touchscreen. Easy with a mouse cursor.

Filling in long online forms.

Editing photos and PDFs.

I agree that it would be good but can you actually do that with a mouse now? I can't seem to.

Don’t know because I don’t have (and don’t want) the beta of iPadOS - which I guess you have. Maybe I’m getting ahead of myself. Does the mouse functionality support right clicks?

I don't have iPadOS and there has been no functionality announced. There has been an online video one guy has shown but it certainly isn't a mouse cursor as we know it. It seems more like a finger steered by a mouse.

I read that there are different cursor options that can be chosen.

Haven’t looked at all this (below) yet - just about to start:

Just thinking further about the mouse: there’s probably no way it will support right clicks - it’s just a pointer substitute for a finger, as an accessibility option.

The mouse buttons can be programmed to what you want them to be (there's a long list to choose from). Right click for me is go home. A long left click is select text for instance and a short click is just that. All the buttons can be programmed. The scrolling works with a wheel but not with the Magic Mouse you click and flick to scroll.
