Let's see how many will trigger the satellite emergency call in a drunken state and be amazed at the subsequent bill for the false alarm ... after all, the service is included for 2 years ....

.... in the US and Canada.

New Airpods pro are everything I hoped for, better ANC, longer battery life and a similar form factor. Will be ordering some soon for workouts and office wear to compliment my XM3's for flights

I have my Series 2 SS that I use as a back up (usually when I have forgotten to charge my S6 the night before)  - lasts a day and more (no idea what the Battery Health is, as it's not available on that model).

My S6 Nike is sitting at 83% Battery Health, but still operates quite nicely. Gets me through a day and a bit if needed.

I'm interested most in the new Apple Watch Ultra

It's ridiculously priced (like so many Apple products are), but based on the longevity of my previous Apple Watches, this should be a longer-term investment.

Double the advertised battery life, which appeals, as well as the fact that it's slightly more "ruggedised".

I like the larger screen, but would need to see one on a wrist to see whether they are too chunky for me.

  • Titanium Case
  • 36hr advertised battery life
  • 49mm case
  • 100m WR
  • IPX6 Dust resistance
  • Programmable "Action" button
  • New bands
  • All the usual Apple Watch Features as well

What's not to like, for a Mountain Biker?

Perhaps I haven't looked hard enough but I can only see the advertised battery life in smart watch mode (36hrs). I'd be keen to understand how long it lasts recording a GPS activity?

For the comparison the Epix Gen 2 has 6 days battery life with AOD, 25hrs in GPS all systems and 15hrs of Multi band. It sounds like the new Apple GPS chipset is comparable to multiband so if thats the case you'll be lucky to get 6hrs of GPS recorded activities between charges.

Yes for the outdoorsy type the Ultra sounds fantastic.. Love this

"An 86-decibel siren is designed for emergencies, should users become lost or injured, and can help draw attention to a location. The unique sound signature incorporates two distinct alternating patterns, which can repeat for up to several hours. The first pattern suggests distress, while the second mimics the universally recognized SOS pattern. For multi-day backpacking trips, battery life can be extended to reach up to 60 hours using Low Power Mode plus an additional low-power setting that reduces frequency of GPS and heart rate readings."

The 14 pro looks very promising - might just be time to retire the old 8+, this looks like the upgrade I've been waiting for. 🤣

I saw it quoted somewhere the ultra will do 10 hours multiband GPS, although in the low power mode it says it can still do GPS so I'm unsure...

With my Garmin watch which does a big percentage of the Apple watch can do gives up to 10 days battery with all services on and cost half the price of the Apple watch. My Apple watch has sat in a drawer for 8 months which is 75% of its life span. I had to charge it the morning and top it up before bedtime in order to record sleep and nocturnal heart rate. If didn't top it up it would die during my sleep.

iPhone Pro Max pricing ouch $2,199 to $3,199 hmmm MacBook Air $2.149 to $2,699 iPad Pro $1,349 to $3,300. I know not exact product comparisons but indicative and brings to question the iPhone pricing justification. I think it's price setting at a level; because they can.

I have purchased a lot of Apple products over the years but I think no more not that my decision impacts them one iota.

Thanks, that's not too bad if it is multiband. Would be good if it was configurable so you could disable multiband when its not required for even longer GPS recording.

I don't think the Watch Ultra is expensive - it's cheaper than a Garmin Epix and it's only $50 more expensive than the stainless steel 45mm series 8. The 49mm size is really too big for me but as a competitive runner I still really, really like this product. If I needed to replace my watch this year it would be a really tough choice between the Ultra and the series 8.

Interestingly the Airpods Pro don't appear to have the rumoured lossless capability, but I think I'll buy them anyway as I need to replace my old pair and they seem like a decent upgrade.

I'd hang on another year and wait for the inevitable USB-C port. 😁

I think we will see no ports before USB-C in iPhone
