apparently it takes a while for voda to enable 3G data on new onaccount plans? thats what i was lead to believe cuz my friend called up vodafone a few minutes ago
I am stoked with the new iPhone. Screen is amazing, and I haven't been able to replicate the death grip yet. Was 4th in line at VF store in Northlands, CHC.
I got iphone 4 today and can't use 3g data as well. PDP blah blah. I worried if the phone has hardware problem, but I guess many ppl have the same issue. hope voda sort this out by tomorow night!
I just confirmed with a friend and he says he has the same problem. I can only assume the 3G data hasn't been enabled yet. I doubt it is a hardware problem since I put my XT Microsim in and it works fine.
On a side note when I call 777 to check my balance, it says I have 3072 megabytes of data, 2 anytime minutes and 29 texts.
What's up with only 2 included minutes and 29 texts? I can only assume the system hasn't updated with my plan?

Bought it from the Glenfield Mall Voda dealer on the shore. Store was thronging, bet they sold out within the first hour. Staff there did a good job of dealing with chaos. Signing up / resigning 60 contracts at once is no easy feat. Good friendly hard working staff.
I'd also like to thank Voda for letting me buy it in two installments, will cancel the contract tomorrow. :) Voda is 0-2 bars of over priced suck where I am in Takapuna. 2degrees/Telecom XT or nothing. Snapped a 2degrees and an XT sim in my stapler gun, both work great, even the XT sim which you have to cut through metal in order to MicroSIM. We get 3G 2degrees here, iPhone 4 screams on 2degrees 3G.
Weak spot antenna issue is easy to replicate, but you have to be in an already weak signal spot to do it, 2-3 bars.
I can also replicate it on my HTC Desire, so it's no biggie.
Screen is obviously better than the iPhone 3GS, but I prefer the screen on my HTC Desire. I'd like the screens on Samsung Galaxy S phones and Droid Xs even more. This whole Retina screen business isn't my cup of tea, I'd rather they just put a bigger 3.7 inch screen on it. Bet they do that for iPhone 5. Retina display = hype and nonsense, sorry. It does nothing to make the phone more usable.
Build quality is even better than the iPhone 3GS, and I didn't think that was possible. Very solid phone, feels like quality in your hand. Like a tough piece of metal.
Speaker seems better than the 3GS too.
Facetime needs to die already. It keeps sending silent SMSes to activate over and over again, or at least it dd until I turned it off. It's already obsolete, there's solutions for video calling over 3G on the store, so Facetime can sod off frankly.
Phone is even nippier than the 3GS, and the 3GS was pretty nippy. Everything runs smooth as silk, Apps fly open, games run at a fast clip, it's no slouch.
Had no issues with proximity sensors or any of the other issues but that may be due to my developer 4.1 Beta 2 Firmware. Phone just works great.
Camera is great. I already got better pictures from the 3.2MP camera on my 3GS than from the 5MP camera on my HTC Desire. The Desire may be higher res but the pictures were poor and washed out. The iPhone 4 camera is even better. How did we survive without an LED flash this long, they're essential.
So...
The good:
Build quality excellent. Thin robust well built phone Fast as hell Great camera, maybe the best on a mobile phone. Huge improvement Screen viewable for more angles. IPS screen tech working for you. Fab. It's an iPhone. Best apps, best games. Skype, Doodle Jump, all that awesome stuff.
The bad:
Retina display a lot of hype and nonsense. bigger screen would have been better. Bigger Super AMOLED screen even better. FaceTime can sod off. Stop sending me sodding text messages from the UK.

Pretty representative. HTC Desire screen on the right is big'n'beautiful, right up until you get out in Southern Hemisphere strong sunlight, then it's unreadable. iPhone 3GS screen is awful at anything except square on, which for a phone full of motion controlled games is major suckage, iPhone 4 is good from all angles, and good in sunlight.
This IPS technology is awesome, I love it to bits.

Q: Does 2degrees have the newer tech towers? i.e. using same type as XT? I'm just wondering how signal strength for 2degrees can be stronger than VF? seeing as they are VF company are they I thought they might be using old VF stuff.
I think mine hung up on a call last night (proximity sensor issue) that will get fixed next update but still, a bit bull for a new phone to have that problem.
In other news - iMovie is live and available to buy online.
Was up at 4am yesterday, finally walked out of Vodafone Queen St around 3pm with the last 32gb in store (I had it reserved for me when I walked in, 11th in line thanks to the updates from Geekzone! )
Was kinda disappointed with the phone last night, think it was due to the fact that I had been mucked around all day. Don't get me wrong I understand how hard it is for massive companies to make big decisions but just frustrating really. Especially too how my credit check took almost 2 hours. I have never had bad credit before, as I have only just turned 18! What delayed me heaps was the fact that the guy put my middle name down as my first name but thats all just mistakes being made because he was trying to get through so many people. I think the launch was a little disorganised with not enough people doing credit checks etc etc.
Woke up this morning and can't put the thing down. Absolutely love it. Its also my first iPhone but it will go nicely with my collection of two macs and an iPad. Just starting to sync all my contacts across etc..
I have that free case program app installed but I'm not waiting 4-6 weeks to have a case for the phone. I am going to be so damn careful with this thing; I have left the plastic protection things on! So I am going to try and find out whether or not I can just go ahead and buy the case and get it priority shipped and then just ask Apple for the reimbursement.
Havn't really had time to play with many apps, all the iPhone compatible apps that were on my iPad have now synced across but I'm sure at some stage in the next week I will spend some time browsing through the app store.
Camera seems very impressive along with the awesome screen. Of course I tried the death grip but to be honest it doesn't worry me too much as I'm getting a case plus I never hold it in that way anyway.
Build quality is very very nice. Feels strong and firm in your hand and the weight makes it feel like its really high quality (which it bloody well should be!)

There is a JB for the iPad, well as long as you didn't update to 3.2.1 when you first plugged it in? I had mine JB'd withing 5 mins of getting the ipad.
