And the latest rumors are...
The iPhone 4 – currently available in 16GB and 32GB models – will contain only 8GB of storage.

The iPhone 4S – $99 for 16GB, $199 for 32GB – will be bumped up from an A4 processor to an A5, as is in the iPad 2.

In addition, both the iPhone 4S and the iPhone 5 – $299 for 32GB, $399 for 64GB – will be dual-mode GSM/CDMA handsets with 1GB of RAM, up from 512MB in the iPhone 4.

[prices in US dollars]

Looks like you might be right TD

I think a lot of people will be surprised at the price point of an 8gb entry level phone, it wont be any $600 price fighter i bet, i would hazard a guess it will still sit around the $900 mark

Yeah, I would agree considering the recent pricing of the 3GS. I don't know who bought a 3GS at around the $900 mark when $200 odd got you a 4 with double the memory.

I agree with you but I don't see who they are targeting. If you have $900 for a phone you have $1100 for a better phone.

I think the price points that matter are around $500 and $1000 up or down $200 at each point.

I think the strategy is less focussed on dollars and more on needs

8gb ip4 - target market people who jsut want an iphone so they can tell their friends they own an iphone, these people will naturally buy the cheapest iphone they can not because they cant afford but they wont afford

16/32gb ip4s - will predominantly target the more tech savvy with small hands

ip5 - will target tech savvy with large hands/ those that want the best apple they can buy/those that like to own the latest toys :P

While there probably will be a lot of crossover on 4s and 5 featurewise etc, I believe the market will divide nicely into either camp

I have to say though there seem to be a lot of apple fanboi banter around the globe threatening to go SGS2 if the ip5 doesn't hit their ideals tomorrow

See if, and I know it's a big if, an 8GB ip4 was around $600 it would be my next phone.

I have an 8GB SD on my Motorola Defy and 8GB is all I need for music and audio book. True, it gets a bit full when I add movies but movies on a a phone, any phone, is always a second best option.

This is where I agree with TDGeek. I would change partly for the eco-system. The apps work well and Face-time is great and all that. I use iTunes because it is great. Nothing in the Android eco-system comes close to it for managing tunes or ease of getting them on and off your phone. Chuck in iCloud and you are really looking at a great package. Yeah, I'll miss my swype keyboard but I'll live.

Hardware wise the ip4 is still and outstanding phone. Retina Display, outstanding build quality and battery life better than most Androids.

It is probably battery life where the ip4 hits the sweet spot for me, I would take this over a slightly faster processor any day. From what I understand the hardware/software integration also helps here.

An 8GB ip4 is never going to appeal to those who see their phone/car/boat and an extension of their ...

But to me it is just a phone and iPod together, that was the appeal of the original iPhone. That is still the big appeal to me and at around $600 I would actually be tempted.

Think I may wait another year to upgrade or have a look at the new Samsung.

I didnt see NZ mentioned on the release dates thing at the end, ill assume they missed us, merged us with Australia, or we are 100 other countries by the end of the year.

New Zealand wasn't on the slides for either the 14th or 28th surprisingly, which means by the end of the year then?
I thought we would have been one of the first like previous launches.

I don't believe that there's any difference, at all, between the phones (same power plug - if they still include a wall charger) so yeah we've probably been lumped in with AU.

Edit: The Apple site is up and down, but there's no date listed on the NZ pages!

Probably because Vodafone does such a pathetic job of a product launch here, why would they bother

Yawn. Apart from Siri there was nothing exciting, mere catchup with other hardware already in the market.
