So they didn't wan the current top of the range ipad product to have an old dock connector and older chip, which would make it look old compared to the iphone and ipad mini. Now all their current range of new products have the new connector. Older gen products have the old one.

iPod Touch will reduce GB and price, as mini IPad will suit many. Touch will thus sell better, Touch is too pricey before, let alone now.

iPhones will also move to two versions, 4" and 4.6 ish. Many don't want a big phone, but many do.

I feel Apple is out to cover more demographics, that's nowcovered on two iPad options, I can see phones going the same.

I think they made a messup with the iphone by creating such a weird change to the aspect ratio. If they wanted to increase it's size, they should have done it properly by creating one about the size and resolution of the samsung S3. Their argument was about the keyboard size in vertical orientation. But I find that keyboard too narrow to use anyway, and the width of the one on the S3 is perfect. I think they are going to now have to change it again in the near future, which isn't going to make app developers very happy, as they are going to have to make apps for different sized screens. At least the ipad has a standard size and aspect ratio now

It is a bit strange that they have totally removed the ipad 3 from sale, and now only have the ipad 4 and ipad 2, but again I guess they want a point of difference, as the ipad 3 and 4 are so similar for normal use. Just wonder how long they will keep selling the ipad 2 for. Guess it is good for ipad 2 users, as as long as they keep selling it, apple should keep updating IOS for it. I wonder if they will eventually add siri to the ipad 2. They have added features to devices in the past that didn't previously have them added.

Im not so sure about thw issues with developers. From an Apple view, they have made many extra sizes/resolutions of late. I assume resolution is not so much an issue? But on the other hand, the size range they have is still low, just a handful. My iPhone 5 has had a few updates to cater for the 5, thats quite quick. Possibly due to it only being a row of icons taller, so easier to provide a new version.

I agree fully that an S3 type of size needs to meet the market, I feel it will, to give a good size one handed phone and a big phone. May be an iPhone 6 and a iPhone Mini. There is room on the iPhone 4S and 5 to take advantage of waste form factor space.

Im also surprised they removed iPad3. Perhaps its to give an update to iPhone 5 similar specs, show some action to the market, and standardise the connector? I also feel that with SJ gone, there is much more room to move in terms of innovation. Suddenly we have a the first screen change to the iPhone, and a mini iPad.

I just wish they'd bump up the storage. 64GB ain't much - and storing in the cloud isn't really viable when you're on the move and don't always have access to WiFi (and when you're not at home, the WiFi owner may not appreciate you using their bandwidth to stream music and movies!)

For a correct comparison Ipad mini to Ipod touch you need to look at like for like.

Ipod Touch 32GB = $459.00

Ipad Mini 32GB Wi-fi = $629.00

Quite a difference, for me a music player needs to have at least 32 GB storage so I'd need the Ipad Mini 32GB for that task.

that said we were going to get a couple of Ipod touches for wi-fi cameras at work but the Ipad Mini may be a viable option at a $10 premium.

I am waiting on pricing from my supplier but will more likely order an iPad mini just to play with. Like to iPhone 5 though stock will be almost non existent I would imagine.

Just read an article about how the ipod touch might now be end of life, which made me sad as I kind of hoped it would get 3g one day and be the iphone without the phone, then it struck me that the ipad mini might be the end of the iphone as well.

If you have a SIP client (or Skype at a pinch) and a bluetooth headset, maybe this is a one device to do everything due to pure portability?

I see that the prices on the iPad3 have dropped to clear out stock - it's still a bloody good unit. Saw the iPad3 16GB WiFi for $635, nearly $100 off.

* 16GB iPad 3 (WiFi only ) - $549

Don't worry about the "refurbished" tag. Apparently, some (most?) are surplus stock.

It is. Maybe Apple can refresh iPads every 18 months to 2 years, then more whining. So they refresh the iPad 3 sooner, thats good, or is a newer, updated device a problem??

On a similar note, the iPad3 is a good device, dual CPU, quad GPU, but it is end of line, apart from sales of remaining stock. This leaves the Mini and iPad2 quite cheap. I expect pre owned iPad 3's may command a decent price for the 32-64GB models.

Damn that is tempting, by the time I travel the Ipad 4 will have filtered thru and for the one I want will be $808.00 but tempting, the price for the Ipad 3 wi-fi + 3G 16GB at $749 is REALLY tempting.

Bugger having just cut up my credit cards!

bizarely cheap pricing IMO.

I know it is refurbished, but the 16GB Wifi model of the 'old' ipad with Retina is now CHEAPER than a new 16GB iPad2. ($579)

I would have thought the price would be somewhere between the two, maybe around $650 for the old ipad with retina.

i think some of the whining is fair, the people who bought an ipad 3 within the last few weeks, should feel a little pissed off.

most people didnt know there was another version coming out so soon (i personally had no idea) and expected it to come out around march/june next year.

something that cost them $xxx say 3 weeks ago now would buy them a newer model (which would resell for more) or they could of spent less to buy the same thing.

so some is fair, some about people who bought it say 4 months ago, no.

i get why they did it with the mini and iphone 5 to match the connectors. but a little more warning would have pleased people more.

my brother bought a ipad 3 about 4 weeks ago, hes annoyed, not hating his ipad now, but is getting annoyed with apple.

disclaimer: i use to be an apple fanboy, ive given up on apple over the last 12 months.
