I see Apple Pay being used by people daily in London. Hardly ever do I see someone using the Android equivalent.

The product is under review. Only existing OneSmart users are getting Airpoints cards with OneSmart now rather than every Airpoints customer.
I hope they don't kill it off. It's the easiest way I've found to throw my money at Hulu & HBO.
There isn't any suggestion of that, but OneSmart is a BNZ product - and the relationship between BNZ and Air NZ isn't great.
I used it four times over the weekend. Three transactions were under $80 and one was over $80. The over $80 transaction also required a PIN which was a pain as my fingerprint is far more consistent than my signature!
I've used this three times now. Once was over $80 and I had to enter a PIN as expected.
The other two times has been at Z where each time I've been asked to sign. What's the point in this if I have to whip out my card anyway to prove the signature is the same (wasn't asked the first time to show my card, but the second time I didn't have my card with me & was asked - luckily I wasn't getting fuel!)
The two times at Z I used my debit card instead of CC. Wonder if it could make the difference??
I was using the ANZ goMoney app to pay at places like Countdown using my Sony Z3 over a year ago without any issues. Unhappy to find out the Z5 was not compatible with the app however, although I remain hopeful of an update.

It's annoying that the Z5 isn't supported (I have one as well). From asking a contact there the phone works, but internal testing showed an issue but I didn't actually find out what that was.
Whitelisting of the device is done in the app itself, and I have no idea if ANZ actually retest phones.
Yabanize:
Did you spend over $80?
Nope, did notice that ANZ responded to someone on Facebook who had a similar issue. They said that it is to do with Old Software on some Machines and they are working with Merchants on this - Oddly enough a majority of the complaints I saw were from Z or other Petrol Stations - Have used it at 4-5 other places, no issues.
Any comments made are my personal views and does not represent those of my employer

As the novelty of paying with your phone, sorry for the comment folks, but Android users have been doing this in New Zealand for over a year now. The uptake was so small that the main service closed shop last month (not surprising, since three telcos and two were involved and I guess expectations were out of this world) but some other banks put their own NFC-based cards on Android on the side before that.
I don't think anyone's denying that Apple didn't do it first, but as per usual, they seem to have done it best. Or are the Android options as easy as tapping your phone while your finger/thumb is on the home button?
I just have to have the screen on, no finger on the button needed at all. Semble was easier, active all the time, even with the phone powered down because it ran flat. But they couldnt organize their way out of a paper bag so that died.
I really hope the aussie banks manage to break apple monopoly on the nfc payments on the iphone. ANZ were the ones that sold out. Probably because they cant get customers any other way.

Isn't the real issue the number of capable terminals?
I read somewhere that less than 25% of retailers have adopted the technology which seems very slow.

I really hope for the opposite. The banks will just mess it up by using their own complicated apps. The joy of Apple Pay is that it's so easy to use – no opening an App and choosing "Pay Now" etc.
I imagine ANZ were "the ones that sold out" because they know what the future of banking is and they will probably gain more financially (in customer retention and increased card spend per customer) than they lose by giving Apple their 0.00001% cut of each transaction.
richms: Apple pay also works on the web. If you are happy to have apple having control of who can use it. Giving control of payments to a foreign company from somewhere with the censorship ideals of apple is far from ideal.
I see the road apple pay leads down giving too much control to apple.
All the big banks in NZ are owned by foreign companies, and these Banks have such fine moral and ethical records themselves? I'd place more faith in Apple to be honest.
