Well.....regardless of everything I'm going to be there in line whatever it takes.
I'm not really worried how long I have to be there, I just want to come away with what I've been waiting for!

Would be nice to have some info come through though, those of us hardout enough to line up for a day or so deserve to know...we'll add to the buzzzZZzzzz

i CAN NOT beleive that vodafone havnt released any pricing info yet, what a shocker! It goes on sale in a week and a day!! What the hell are they doing? They sure know how to build up anticipation (scarcasim.. for anyone that may have missed it!) no one knows how much money they are going to need this time next week, if they had released info earlier people could have saved up more, the prices really should have been out a week ago. Truly a company with its head in the sand.

Great marketing really, they get all the apple freaks drooling and snarling, then open the gates and watch the feeding frenzy. Nice work Vodafone

Me - I'm obsessed with the full-black back of the 3G iPhone (can't stand the tacky black plastic bar at the back of my current iPhone - looks like a jellytip icecream!), plus I want the Vodafone data plans etc. to use with MobileMe.

And because I'm a total Apple fanboy and must have the latest version.

Yep I'm with you - same reasons here. Although I do still like the original iPhone design more than the new one. The back of the new one better be as scratch resistant as the current one.

Well I will also be replacing my old iPhone mainly due to the new GPS feature, and idea of a decent cost effective data plan. Although I will change my mind if the data plan is too expensive. It still irritates me that Vodafone can't even give us a date that an announcement will be made. A week out and I still have no idea what I will (or will not as the case may be) be buying, or even when the first sales will be. Surely a deadline for a press release must exist. It can't harm them to let us know this can it? ... or maybe they are worried they may miss the press release deadline. Kind of makes me think that it's a little chaotic in the Vodafone offices at the mo and they are still running around like headless chooks throwing numbers and figures around trying to achieve that "magic" plan that will please both the punters and vodafone/apple.

I have just finished another meeting with a voda rep in relation to our business switching from telecom to vodafone. On the iphone front he said that there is low stock numbers meaning that only specific stores will have them for release on 11 July. Would be a bummer to line up outside a store only to find that they were not allocated any for the launch!

The other piece of information I was able to gather from him/her (must protect their identity) was that the iphone is going to be priced around the $1000 mark. If this is true then they are a lot more than many of us were thinking.

Here's hoping that Saturday will be the launch of the information.

Although only rumor, you would have to assume that $1000 dollar mark represents a TCO over 2 years rather than purchase price. That price would be 5 times the average worldwide announced price which makes no sense at all.

The $1000 mark is probably the unsubsidised price, which would line up with world-wide prepay pricing as released, and flys in the face of Steve Jobs' comment that the worldwide prices would be around the US$199 mark with a 24 month contract. The questions is what will the contract term pricing be?

Every operator has to find a way to make up the difference in purchase price from Apple with the retail price to the customer.

Some are doing this with higher purchase prices, some have higher contract prices. But as you can see from the table there is a similarity in the total cost of ownership to the customer.

Where there is variability is in the details of the plans themselves.

Importantly, no Vodafone operator has released their plans yet worldwide which may indicate there will be strong similarities between the various countries plans. That may, or may not be good for New Zealand as we (at present) do not have a competitive market for the iPhone.

So in summary, over two years we can expect the TCO of ownership for an iPhone in NZ is likely to be in line with what that table indicates.

The real interest will be what we, here in NZ, get for that outlay in minutes, texts, data.
Vodafone have been quite aggressive recently in improving those factors for their contract customers and Paul has hinted that this trend will continue for the iPhone plans.

Fingers remain crossed.

I've decided that whatever it takes I'm gna be close to the front of the line.
How early do you recon we'll need to be? I'm sure someone on here'll have some inside info!!!

Not sure if NZ is used to these sort of things like lines around the block for 8-hours in advance etc.....but seeing what that guy put on Trademe got me thinking....

I am definitely going to get one, but it wouldn't bother me that much if I couldn't get one the day that they are launched. It would be nice to know how long it will take for the second shipment to come through if I were to have to put get one on backorder.

However, if it's likely to be a month or so before new stock comes in then that's another story. Holding off for a week or two wouldn't bother me and therefore i wouldn't feel the need to line up, thereby freeing up my space in line for someone else :)

Well from what I've heard the demand is gonna be insane.
Vodafone stores have been told to stof calling-up to find out information. I went into a small one in east-auckland just after lunch and they said I was the 15th person that day who came in wanting details.

See how quickly they took down the pre-registration page! I recon re-stocking will take AGES....especially seeing as some european countries have had pre-orders (or similar) in the tens (hundreds?) of thousands???

I'm so not missing out, I'm coming back halfway through my holiday, then going back just so I don't miss out!
