Shadowfoot:
Teeps: Yup, nothing else I own gets updated after the product is no longer sold so I think Apple is being pretty fair, even though I do understand the pain as I'm sure it could cope with some if these extra features.

Really? I have lots of software that gets updated after it was sold to me. Operating systems often have security fixes and sometimes new features are added. What about the "free" applications that the OS manufacturer provides?

I didn't say when sold to me, I said when it was no longer sold, there is a big difference.

When a product is a current item you very often get software updates, but when that product, whether it is hardware or software, is no longer sold or has been superceeded with a new item you very often (I will admit I won't say always) don't get updates to that product.

Do you honestly expect software/firmware updates for products that you bought many years ago that manufacturers have brought out new updated versions of? If features continued to be added to old products for free you're not likely to upgrade and they won't make any money!

Also, we're not talking about Windows here, we're talking about cell phones.

Also also, Microsoft doesn't provide all features support for PCs 2 generations old when releasing a new rev of Windows. Would you expect Windows 7 to run with all bells and whistles on a P4?

My tethering is fine with my 3G on Vodafone - so I'm a happy punter.
In fact, I'm using it to make this post :-)
Bluetooth connectivity with my brand spanking Mac... however, does not work.
I will admit that I have only ever used it to connect to a stereo once in the past... and then, the poor audio quality meant I turned it off after roughly 5 minutes.
All in all, I'm happy that Apple haven't abandoned the product all together, and in particular, when I compare my phones performance and features today, to what is was when it was new - the difference is marked.

I admit that I'm jealous of iPhone 4 users and all their extra features, but will wait until iPhone 5 (and iPad 2) to make the move up to the new models.
