Yeah, big let down. Apple shares down 3-4% too, so looks like the market agrees with a let down.

They didn't explicitly say that siri isn't for iphone 4 but it looks like it will only be for the 4s. Only feature that has improved really. Those photos did look pretty good but they have probably been photoshopped massively. Think I'll be holding onto my 4 for at least another year. Unless I get too tempted by a Galaxy II S.

iPhone 4S with A5 dual core CPU with 7x graphics performance. Dual mode CDMA and GSM/WCDMA.

Dual antenna (yeah, right, never had antenna before, right Steve Jobs?)

Looks like this iPhone is one for the company, not really so much in it for consumers. Being a 'world phone' should reduce build costs, being a single device, keeping Apple's legendary profit margins high. The upgraded hardware will improve the lot of current iPhone owners, but they don't look terribly special compared to the competition so I wonder whether that's enough to entice new customers into the Apple camp.

Especially at Apple's traditional premium price point.

One thing's certain, the missus isn't going to be upgrading this cycle, her take-out being "it's an iPhone 4 - I'll wait until the proper iPhone 5 comes out", or words to that effect. The tech improvements failed to excite.

The other iPhone users in this household are mid contract so they wouldn't be in the market anyway, but reaction so far is "a bit meh".

Interesting tactic by Apple, especially given the longer than usual development period.

Galaxy S has gone to its new owner. HTC Sensation has gone to its new
owner. Galaxy S3 has gone to its new owner. Now using Galaxy Note 3. Skipping Note 4 I think...

Apple's shares almost always go down immediately after their keynotes. Nothing out of the ordinary.

I'm reading the live blog now,

Main points I can see:
Its called the iPhone 4S
Dual-Core A5 Chip
Works on both GSM and CDMA (aka worldphone)
14.4megabit HSPA
Can work off 2 cellsites at once
8mp camera (high tech looking camera too)
1080p video recording
Voice recognition

Same Shape as the iphone 4

Release Date is October 14, but looks like we got to wait till December? (australia gets it much soon)

Hope its a October 14th launch. Wonder whats the price point for the 64gb model. This is going to be my main camera/camcorder so might as well get the highest storage.

s.joseph: i sold my iPhone 4 last week in anticipation, if its just a upgraded 4s only i will be buying a galaxy 2 tommorrow.
But if its complete redesign iPhone 5 then yay :)

Someone had them (S2) for $850 the other day :) shop around.

No sign of the 4S on Apple NZ, guessing we are a bit behind everyone else in the queue. It's live in Oz http://store.apple.com/au/browse/home/shop_iphone/family/iphone?mco=MTAyNTQzMjI but not sure if we can order from there and ship here without getting stung for GST.

If the regular 4 drops in price a bit then I might just get one of those for my wife (the original plan was to get a 4S/5 for me and give her my 4).

Strangely Apple's NZ site has the 3GS still available at a lower price point while sales of the iPhone 4 have been suspended until October 7, presumably so that they can arrange for all future sales to be pre-installed with iOS 5.

There appears to be no price or availability information on the 4S.

Nothing exciting, huh? You obviously don't have a teenage daughter thats been pining for an iPod Touch for Christmas. White iPod FTW! :-D

Agreed on the iPhone front though. Still catching up on all the news, and am keen to see how many of the new features (esp Siri stuff) will be 4S only, or whether they will also work on the iPhone 4.

crackrdbycracku: See if, and I know it's a big if, an 8GB ip4 was around $600 it would be my next phone.

I have an 8GB SD on my Motorola Defy and 8GB is all I need for music and audio book. True, it gets a bit full when I add movies but movies on a a phone, any phone, is always a second best option.

But at least with your Defy you can add a bigger SD card you can't on the iPhone unless you pay steve a bucket of iCash and get a new fone..

Even though I expected this to be an incremental update I'm still a little surprised at how little Apple brought to the table.

I expect lots of 4 owners will pass on upgrading to the 4S.

Real interesting thing will be to see how this affects which mobile OS people want in their next phone, doesn't look likely to curb Android's growth in that area, particularly when Androids will have significantly better hardware months before the iPhone 5 release next year.

Interested to hear from anyone here who was waiting for this announcement to decide iOS or Android?
