Can you purchase the phone by itself without the $29 plan? Can't really be bothered with the mucking around with that.

Nope have asked already.

Sounds dodgy, sure it say open term but most people just want the phone so making them get a plan for a month just to make a measly $29....

Possibly but they probably want to save their time. Their policy is $29 for a minimum of 1 month then you are free to either cancel the number, or switch to prepay.

So I can just ask for a prepaid nano sim while I'm there as well? And then cancel the $29 plan after 1 month and use the prepaid nano sim and not use the $29 thing for the month cos.... it's only $29! :P

Do you just ring them to cancel or what...

Have not figured out that far yet. Seriously, just go get an iPhone 5 if you have been waiting for the last 4 weeks, and worry about the costs later :D

Managed to get myself a 32gig black from the Telecom store. I am an existing Open plan customer so all I paid for was the phone and got the nano sim for free. This was from the Lambton Quay Telecom store.

Thanks Telecom ! Apple order cancelled :)

arynn: Just purchased an iPhone 5 from Telecom as well! It is such a beautiful device.

For everyone else, did you have to pay the $29 up front? I just realized I did not pay the $29, however, I still have the plan. Anyone else encounter this?

I didn't pay a cent, even had them put the $1349 for the phone on my freshly created account.

If you order online on telecom you get to choose interest free options for 12 months billed on your telecom account for monthly payments :)

I don't think the screens sensitivity is as good as the 4s to be honest and man I'm chewing through the battery. And due to being slack at updating my MacBook I can't load my music on it doh!

A common issue with a new phone. Make sure you charge to 100% first time, then only charge when very low, to 100%. After 4 to 5 charge cycles the battery capacity will improve to its normal level.

After that, charge whenever. Battery life is x number of full charge cycles. It makes no difference if you always charge at 25% or 50% or 75%, etc

Find my screen no different to the 4s and with the battery mine did not last either when I first got it 2 weeks ago but after a few chargers it is now way better than the 4s

I got mine today! But it came out of the box with a small chip on the edge and I didn't realise until I had plugged it in  and started setting up. Do you guys think I would have any luck doing a factory reset and seeing if Telecom would replace it? Super bummed.

I'm still waiting on my order from Apple. To be honest, I think I'll just wait. I don't really want to pay another $29 (x2).

Can anyone confirm that the only cost will be the phone and the first month's $29? And at what point in the month can you cancel the plan?

Also is the warranty handled by brightpoint for Telecom handsets as well?

I might just wait for my order. Is it likely that order have fixed the scuff issue on the 2nd batch coming through their new batches?

Hmm, so tempting to cancel my Apple order and purchase from Telecom.

But, seems a few people purchasing from Telecom have a marked phone out of the box - I'll keep my Apple order and hope they've vastly improved QC, increasing my chance of a "perfect" phone!
