And mine has apparently arrived. Better go downstairs and get it!

Paul1977: Mine's out for delivery in Christchurch

Mighty impressed given these devices were still in Sydney at 6pm last night! I wonder how many they shipped in the first run?

Its not bad.

Last year:

Tuesday 9-30 am call Apple for sticky iPhone 5 button, answered by a guy in West Texas
Track and Trace showed replacemnt in Sydney Airport at 5pm, in Auckland at midnight, in my hands 2-30pm Wednesday at work (CHC)

OK, was a little concerned that the box said "iPad Air" and not iPad Air 2". However it has Touch ID button, so must be the right one.

I love the iPad itself, but am decidedly unimpressed with the "black" smart cover - it's grey, not even close to black :(

dickytim: I quite like the look of one of these.

I wouldn't have an Ipad without a keyboard after using my ipad4 with one since almost new!

I have to admit I never saw the point of this. If you are going to do this, why not get a nice slim laptop instead?

Because its not an iPad! ;)

And that is more or less the only appeal they have....

Less actual use than a laptop but a more fashionable accessory.

Not trying to be argumentative, and I realise I wont change your mind, but I got my girl friend an Ipad after our laptop crapped out. Initially she took mine and wouldn't give it back so I got her a 16GB one as 128gb was wasted on her! In the over a year since the laptop died she has not once missed having an actual computer. She thought a lot along the line you are expressing here until she experienced the device for herself.

Got my tracking number, should see it on Monday, unless I get really lucky, but I doubt it as the tracking number was created at 8pm NZ time so 6pm AUST time so likely missed the days courier run and cut off times.

No stress, as I expected it to take over a week to get to me. I am suitably impressed with my first purchase from Apple directly!

To paraphrase my old signal processing lecturer:

"Geektastic you're not often right........ but you're wrong again"

For me it's a totally different use case. I use a notebook for intense work - spreadsheets, writing word docs, doing long emails.

An iPad is great for casual browsing, surfing geekzone, seeing what time a movie is on, checking in on a site at night etc, triaging email that is a it bigger than a two word answer. Using a notebook is a closed off experience, especially on the couch. An iPad is quite different.

YMMV but for me I would much rather use an iPad for this type of use.

Received mine late Thursday afternoon - all up and running.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I'm surprised you didn't receive it yesterday, you ordered Saturday morning didn't you?

My wife was the same. When the iPad initially launched, she had no idea what the point of the device was, and was dead against "wasting money" on one.

About a year later I won an iPad 2 in an online competition. She took to it like a duck to water, and now would not be without it. And last year she practically begged me to upgrade to an iPad Air.
