A store may let you try it out and demo it. Also it may take time for apps to be rewritten to work. So it maybe a case of waiting to see. Hardly anyone has had the chance to try it out, and even those people at the apple event probably wouldn't have been able to download apps on it it try it out. Based on trying out the accessibility features on apple devices vs android (samsung note 9), and things like the inbult screen reader, Apple devices seem like they are far far better for accessibility. I can't even get the samsung note to select text and read it. Instead you have to enable full screen reading, where it reads absolutely everything displayed on the screen,  which is one of the most annoying things ever.

Absolutely a store should have no issues letting you use one to see if it suits your needs.

Yes, the gap between accessibility for blind people between iOS and Android is massive, which is unfortunate as I'd like the same choice as everyone else! VoiceOver, the screen reader in iOS, is a very mature product now and has excellent speech and Braille capability.

In iOS 13, almost every gesture, keyboard command and Braille command is user-customisable. Voice Control in iOS 13 is also great not just for physically disabled people but also for blind people who don't take to the touch screen. No company is perfect but when it comes to accessibility, Apple leads the way, and has for a long time.

Until this year when I took on a new role, I used to write a book every year, a series called "iOS Without the Eye" which summarised and demonstrated all that was new in iOS and how a blind person can engage with it...hence the new phones every year. Now that it's not a business purchase, I have to, in the immortal words of Steve, "think different". But I'm thinking what the hell, it's probably inevitable I'll push the button.

Even made a compelling case to home's CEO over dinner! #Winning

Fighting the urge not to preorder tonight ...

My iPhone 6S Plus still feels like it can maybe go for another year, but I have to charge the phone more often than I'd like despite the battery replacement last year.

Doesn't help that this year's iPhone is available in green - my favourite colour :(

My memory's failing me, but have there been any kind of pre-order bonuses or bundles with iPhones? Definitely not, right? 😂

Not exactly a pre-order bundle, but when you order a new iPhone you get a year's Apple TV Plus free. Bargain eh?

I replaced my iPhone 7 with a lovely Midnight Green 64GB 11 Pro. Of course my wallet now feels so light it might float away at any minute but I look forward to next Friday :)

Got myself a Green iPhone 11 128GB and my partner a Pro Max Forest Green 256GB. Both for the 20th.

Finally completed the 2degrees checkout at 12:06am with a Midnight Green Pro, woohoo!

Fingers crossed for Friday delivery next week (they’ve always come through for me the past three years).

It's beyond me why anyone would stuff around with our useless telcos and their pre-orders, given their traditional inability to guarantee stock/availability. This particularly applies when people are ordering the pros, which is clearly a luxury device -- so if one can't afford to pay for it upfront, financially speaking it's best not to bother. From what I see with Spark, they aren't doing any kind of subsidy for signing a contract, thus it's hard to see the attraction.  Like jmosen, I found the Apple Store app process to be flawless. Got in, ordered my Space Grey 256 GB with an Alaskan Blue case within a couple of minutes, paid, and now know absolutely that I will get my phone next week and the person who has agreed to buy my X can have his phone ASAP.

Easy.

Yeah Apple service is second to none. It's worth buying directly even if possibly a bit more expensive.

This year all retailers and Telcos seem to be selling outright... I am going to assume there won't be any stock issues!
