I must be in the minority for battery usage, my launch XS max has only hit 79% in the last month. Original battery and no replacement.

I would be getting a base 17 but the memory is definitely a factor. If I end up holding on to it as long as the XS Max then I am fairly certain the extra memory is worthwhile. Otherwise i’d have to look at swapping out for a newer model.

A folding phone does not appeal to me, other than to protect the screen by having a case all around it.

17 seems really solid as a base phone, and the pro offers more RAM and the telephoto lens.
Both score the better base memory upgrade to 256GB and better screens.

Struggling to see the marketing obsession with a wider camera bar being considered a feature?!

It's not exactly a feature but they have used that wider camera bar to rearrange the internals to allow for a bigger battery and to allow for other things like better thermal efficiency. So while I agree with basically everyone that it looks like ass, at least it's doing something.

It is doing something but it is essentially making the iPhone thicker and I think it is one of the thickest iPhones ever. I remember when people joked about the camera protruding a little bit from the phone. Now the the cameras protrude from a big protruding mass on the back of the phone. If the whole phone was that thick they could fit a massive battery in it. I am sure some people would want a pro phone that lasts days

So when do we think the local telcos will be publishing their pre-order deals for the iPhone 17 range? Or do we think that's not a thing this year?

From memory I saved $600–700 (six seven as the kids say) on the iPhone 15 Pro, with One NZ. But I fear this year they might be forgoing a discount and making people use their One Wallet balance instead (which is next to useless when it can't be used online).

12 Pro Max here with 88% still. Definitely seems to be lasting better than my previous phone (6 Plus) which needed a battery replacement after a few years.

I'm still horrified at the upper end pricing and wonder who they would really be for.

Who'd pay over $4k for a phone?

I'd guess they sell a very small percentage with the bigger storage, especially now 256GB is standard. 128GB was a pain but I've found 256GB to be the goldilocks zone.

OVER:

For the price of the 2TB Pro, you could get the 256GB Pro and almost 8 years of 2TB iCloud storage.

Given you can now use an external drive at reasonable speed on the pro phones the reason to go for bigger storage gets less and less.
