I'm pleased to report that the date/calendar issue has finally been fixed. A couple of updates ago the birthday field (and some other similar fields) would mess up the date, moving it forward a day (and again every time you edited the field). At last they've fixed that one, small, insignificant but infuriating bug. I'm a happy camper...

I think the 3GS battery drain issue has got something to do with the internal battery monitor getting confused when you update to a new IOS as mentioned in the apple forums.

You have to let the phone battery drain itself completely until the battery is dead and then it seems to reset itself once restarted.
I had to do that with my 3GS and now it is back to the same as it was on the earlier 4.2 versions.

On mine the settings menu has an option for 'personal hotspot' and when you switch this on it gives instructions only on how to connect with bluetooth or USB.

I can confirm that my iPad is unable to locate any Wifi network hosted by my iPhone.

So in my case the evidence supports the argument that there is no Wifi hotspot support on the 3GS.

Ok update: Thanks to the way some paper work was worded you are correct!

No WIFI Hotspot for 3GS! DOH now to go and eat my own words

It is possible to tether an iPad to an iPhone using Bluetooth as long as they are both running iOS 4.3 - I made a quick video over the weekend demonstrating this working on Vodafone.

Caveats:
Will only allow a single connection (not up to 3 devices as per iPhone 4)

Otherwise all works well

There is nothing usefully new for a 3GS and it now doesn't work with my JVC car stereo, so I'll be reverting back to the older OS. One of the main reasons I went iPhone over Android in the first place was for the amount of 3rd party compatability...

It's not your imagination. I normally get close to two days use out of a full battery, the day after 4.3 was released I went from 100% to empty after about 8 hours. Didn't use it any more than I normally would or do anything different with it.

Yesterday it dropped 20% in the space of two hours, and I didn't even use it during that time!

This morning from full it lasted about two hours before beginning to drop, then dropped quite quickly. I'm sitting on 17% at the moment, so I guess it looks like the battery life I used to enjoy is gone.

Hard resets do nothing, haven't done a full restore or anything yet, but there are a couple discussions on Apple about it.

Having said that there are always discussions about reduced battery life when a new version is released, but I've never experienced any issues until now.

iPhone 4 on XT.

Probably one of the apps you have that is causing the battery drain issue. More than likely an app update will come along and fix the problem shortly.

I've also noticed that when you have something draining your battery heavily, the phone will get very hot. If I leave something like TomTom going it heats up a lot while its running.
So if its hot and nothing is running something is draining it somewhere.

That first day when I updated it to 4.3 was very hot until it died even though nothing was running or open in the background. After it died and I recharged it came right slowly after a couple of charges.

Mine is down to 92% today after 10hrs off the charger with light use and mostly standby all day. Which is about how it was before.

Got to say that I am disappointed that that 4.3 wasn't avaliable for the ipod touch 2nd generation. Mine is 1 and a half years old purchased new, and I have installed 4.2, but 4.3 was supposed to fixed bugs and security issues. Mine stutter very badly when scrolling through podcasts, and freezes for a while when going into some music menus. So I am pressuming that those bugs and secuirty holes will not be fixed. Imagine if Micorsoft did that with their OSs. I mean they are still providing free securirty patches for XP which is over 10 years old, so apple should be doing the same for their OS. One and half years isn't a reasonable life in my opinion. They are not even giving the option to pay for updates. I don't want new features, just security holes and current bugs fixing.

The answer to that, as far as I can tell, appears to be yes. After 4.2 my iPad would take some time to reconnect on Wi-fi after either being off or even longer when on but not in use for a period. It would also lock-up periodically requiring some kind of network reset. This was widely reported on Apple forums.

So far, pages seem to load faster and the described issues appear to be fixed.

I was hoping to skip iPad 2 but feared multitasking had pushed the original device to it's limits. Glad to see the improvement.

It said the same thing for me. I went ahead anyway, and when I clicked through to the notes explaining the version changes, it was headed up 4.3. And sure enough, the version showing on the ipad is now 4.3. So go ahead, ignore what iTunes says - it's 4.3.

Admittedly I haven't had enough time to test it thoroughly, but thus far I am inclined to agree that the sporadic wifi connectivity appears to be resolved. This is good to see as it was a huge problem for me when attempting to use public wifi networks.
