It's shipped! Which surprises me; it was due to be delivered 26th-1st. Now it"ll probably arrive Tuesday. My lightning adapter sat around "preparing for shipment" for days, but this was only a few hours, so don't loose hope, people, yours could ship earlier too. I suspect with the sudden availability of the phones on open contract that a lot of orders got cancelled.

Regarding the sim, I just asked about getting my number transferred to it and they dished it straight out, no questions asked. Never even checked my account number! I'm on a contract (for which the fixed term has expired) but since they never bothered to find out, I don't think it makes a difference.

What?

Mine is 1 business day behind and still processing

Maybe it's because it's 64GB black...

Lol. Had mine for a couple of days now, absolutely loving it. I got mine early from Telecom and just using the $29- contract sim in my old phone for a month as a hotspot to use up data etc.
I checked mine in the store for scuffs etc and was very happy to find no problems, but I am concerned just in this forum as well to find how many have issues ~ 20 - 30%.

Had my 3 kids (2.5-7) sitting on my knees last night drinking the pre-bed milos and watching the hoth scene from Empire Strikes Back. Watching videos on theis phone is brilliant with the new aspect ratio.

I think the order of delivery has a little to do with which models are more popular and how well they keep up with demand for each. I ordered mine within the first 15 minutes of being available from the Apple store so there would be an element of "first come first served" as well.

My phone is now in Hong Kong. TNT estimates delivery on the 24th but I suspect earlier. Shame Monday is a public holiday!

Setting my black 64 up now.
Impressions, lighter, but to be honest it does feel like "I already got one of these!. However as I have not seen it setup, I hope to enjoy the extra screen real estate. It is scuff free, and no rattle up top.I have a Case Mate Tough case, although not 100% happy with it. It looks ok, has a front lip, but the edge is not soft rubber, it is hard rubber, thus the power button requires a solid press, that may wear in.

Restore from 4S backup is going quick surprisingly as there is 36GB to copy

Next challenge is configuring the 4S and iPad2 that I gave my wife to my one iTunes installation, so that hers and my 5 and iPad3 share iTunes purchases but keep other matters seperate.

I haven't posted in here since 2005, thought i'd update a post.
I've ordered a 32 gig iphone 5 from apple store like some of you here.. playing the waiting game. Just thought i'd let you hamilton people know, i called DSE on Thackeray street and they said they were expecting iphone stock in today but nothing has shown up yet. Maybe Tuesday they will have some then and i'm very tempted.

On a side note - with ios6 and apple maps taking over from google maps, how does this effect gps based apps such as foursquare, whatsapp loacation sharing and checking in etc.

I doubt it will have any effect as they are stand alone apps. You can still use Google Maps on iOS6 just make a webapp icon. While Apple Maps have a lot of criticism, and justifiably so, if you want a voice turn by turn GPS to go to a street address, Apple Maps works very well. POI is low, but A to B is very good

Similar I think, I wasnt a big maps user at all, but Apple Maps saves me connecting car GPS. Aren't Google releasing a proper app soon? Yeah net based version is not as nice as a dedicated app, but works ok, and now has street view.

This may be useful, allows webapp to run full screen, plus standard icon

I popped into Telecom at Westfield Manukau today and talked to the guy there about buying an iPhone 5 outright *waves*

He said there was no such thing. Only iPhones on contract. I begged to differ and pointed him to geekzone and this thread, which we both checked out instore, and which shows posts about buying at Telecom stores and DSE stores.

He still found it hard to believe, saying that the phones could only be sold on contract and found it hard to believe that DSE were selling them at all. He even thought people might be making it up.

I wandered across the road to DSE and they were indeed selling them, but had all sold out :(
I think the DSE guy said they'd sold 16 or 20 in the last few days and they were taking customer orders for them.

So, there's a lot of conflicting information out there. The outright bought phones are definitely out in the wild but some Telecom stores aren't aware of it, or perhaps some stores are selling them outright without permission?
