I see the latest set of complaints is to do with people getting their hair caught in the gaps in the new iPhones. I predict when 'hairgate' hits the headlines Apple's response will be "get a haircut" (a la antennaegate) and then offer hairbands to affected customers :-)

When I picked up a display model of the 6+ in jbhf I was impressed with the quality of its construction, but it does give the impression of being fragile because of its thinness and light weight. That possibly lends itself to people wondering just how strong it really is. Not that that is an excuse to try and bend it.

My experience on structural design is that people expect things to look strong and sturdy to be so. A classic example in my earlier days was designing a stainless steel platform in a process plant in which I used a 50% overdesign factor. It was sturdy, but the process workers wouldn't use it because it 'looked a bit weak'. In the end I got the fitters to put on a couple of unnecessary braces and a bit of box section that added nothing to the integrity of the platform, then the plant workers were happy.

Anyone who pays $1400 for a piece of precision technology and then maltreats it is either very rich or just plain stupid.
