Thought I'd test the theory and benchmark my partners iPhone 7 Plus purchased July 2017 as she wanted to upgrade to iOS 11 and yep, score was significantly lower immediately once it was upgraded so it has been gimped imo and phone isn't even 6 months old.

Post upgrade, the score is lower then a 6s plus and a iPhone SE lol

10.3.3

11.2.1

Quoted from Gizmodo today..

"Now, anyone with an iPhone 6 or newer should be able to walk into an Apple store and have the battery in their iPhone replaced for $39, regardless of whether their phone's battery health has degraded past 80 per cent or not."

It begs the question, and I think @Mattnz may have stated or implied it.

For a battery to last 500 cycles and still be at 80% is very cool. But it seems that with today's Apple hardware and apps, 80% is not enough grunt to run some apps?

I haven't noticed a slow down, it maybe there but it's overshadowed by the other bugs and annoyances in iOS 11.*

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I will replace my 7 battery later in the year regardless.

As I will probably buy an iphone 9 or w/e its called its will be good for the resale value of my old phone. In fact not sure what I will buy next....def. not spending $2k on a phone.

I did the Atutu test on my iPhone 7+ running iOS 11.2.5 (Beta) and get 155953, so some changes they are trying must improve that too...

Ok, so apple, both secretly and deliberately, degraded the performance of their phones. And yet the consumers line up to buy apple again. Go figure.

Given the reasoning for this I don't have a problem buying an iPhone again. The only thing wrong Apple has done, IMHO, is not communicate clearly what they were doing and why. They are managing phones power usage to make sure that the phones don't crash.

And with their new pricing for batteries along with their long support for phones with OS updates, the phone should last a lot longer than any Android phone.

BTW: If you are moving to Android because you don't like Apple managing your iPhone, you might want to think about that a little before you do it:

Reddit with a long thread of people with Android phones that crash because of battery problems.

They should have made it optional. Apple don't own the phones the buyers do.

They are doing it to quite young iphones though

and I'm wandering if they've done it to my 2017 ipad air cause that's been very slow since IOS 11 that I am starting to think it has a hardware bug.

Arent they doing it when battery health drops to 80% which is about 500 cycles. Thats a very high user for a young phone. A young car with 200,000km on the clock is still a 200,000km heavily used car. If the phone was 4 years old, then the management may be a good thing. But what still gets me is an 80% battery cant cut it with some apps.

I'd like someone to confirm this 80% thing. Who knows it might be all iphones! Maybe everyone should do a benchmark and inform their battery status and a graph and be plotted.

Would this apply in NZ too?

Currently not updated on the Apple site though 🤷‍♂️
