Well, if Dolby Atmos is regarded as spatial audio, then my old Apple TV 4K had it, just like my second generation model has.

My iTunes library of over 300 titles has around 80% encoded with spatial audio.

Apple Music will have thousands of songs in spatial audio in June, and will sound amazing on a good Home Cinema setup.

Can you access Freeview and FTA channels via Apple TV? (ie. can you use it as a one stop shop for all TV)

If yes, can you pause live TV? (like the Vodafone TV allows)

Excuse my novice questions, but I have never seen Apple TV in action.

I have a free Apple TV for 12 months as part of my iPad purchase, but what actually do I get with Apple TV?

I have had a look at the app and it looks like all the movies have rental fees, so what is it I am getting for free? What is included with a subscription, is it just the TV shows that are exclusive to Apple and nothing else?

As above ThreeNow is available for Apple TV but the picture quality seems very mediocre. I assume it's standard definition.

I have a subscription to Apple TV+ and it gives me access to TV shows. I'm not into movies so I can't comment on that side of it, but as far as TV shows are concerned there is quite a limited amount of content but I have really enjoyed some of the stuff I have watched. It seems to be quality over quantity, unlike Neon which is cluttered up with a lot of rubbish.

Apple have their iTunes paid for content namely movies.

Apple TV+ is a new thing entirely. It’s their version of Netflix. They’re currently giving out yearly free trials. This is Apple produced original content such as the tv shows: The Morning Show, Ted Lasso, Servant and movies such as Cherry, Palmer and Grey Hound.

A lot of their content has done really well winning awards namely Ted Lasso and The Morning Show.

Definitely worth checking out.
You can access by clicking the Apple TV+ Originals button within the TV app.
It’s a bit confusing to the uninitiated but after a minute of having a look around the app it all becomes clearer.

Got mine today and set up in no time at all. Watching a TV program now on it, I don’t know if it’s a placebo effect or not but it seems crisper and smoother than my previous version.

Also, I’ve noticed Disney+ is now incorporated into the Apple TV app.

The remote, love it. Simple and it works.

It's not. Dolby Atmos is Dolby Atmos. Spatial audio is different.

Mine is still on a brief tour of the exotic sorting facilities of Sydney. Still its given me extra time to think of reasons for its purchase when the financial controller queries the reasons for its existence. Seeing as we've already got a Shield and several Fire TVs I'm getting a bit desperate. I could try the honest approach and say 'hey, its new and I felt like it', but on seconds thoughts...

Anybody ?

Can spatial audio be added via a iOS software update, say in June, or does it require some additional hardware tech in the Apple TV box?

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Spatial audio will be available after the next software update, which will be version 14.6

Here is a good You Tube video, explaining Apple Music's spatial and hi-res audio 🙂

Thanks guys. Questions:

1 - TV will support Spatial Audio with a future OS update
2 - TV will support Standard (Tier 1 & 2 only) Apple LossLess Audio with a future OS update

Now concerning my Yamaha AVR RX-V1085 from what I can gather from reading the full manual:

1 - It will support Spatial Audio because it supports Dolby Atmos (garnered from Movieman's above video)
2 - It will only support Apple LossLess Audio via the USB connection

AV Setup (I do not currently have an ATMOS speaker setup only 6:1)

1 - Yamaha AVR RX-V1085 connected to TV HDMI 1 (ARC)
2 - Chromecast Ultra plugged directly into TV HDMI 2 (because we only switch Yamaha on for DVD and streaming not for FTA)
3 - Panasonic Blu-ray PVR DMR-BWT835 connected to Yamaha using HDMI
4 - Yamaha, TV & Chromecast all connected via LAN Ethernet home network back to Spark Smart Modem

Would I be better plugging the TV directly into one of the Yamaha HDMI (HDCP 2.2) jacks and using the AVR all the time (streaming, DVD & FTA) for a better sound experience. Quite honestly we do not really notice the sound difference which either setup, which I presume ?? is due to the HDMI 1 (ARC) even with all the different sound scenario's the Yamaha provides.

Might be interesting to run the Yamaha Parametric room Acoustic Optimizer Reflected Sound Control setup again once I connect the TV also again when the above audio formats arrive.
