So when it says prepared for shipment...
Does it mean its getting ready to ship from Australia or from somewhere in NZ?

It refers to shipping from Sydney.

prepared for shipment means waiting to dispatch from sydney.. Mine just got changed to shipped and from what I've read so far it takes overnight and in the morning it will get delivered if you are in auckland. They use TNT international express mail which takes 1 day.

My experience with the Apple Online Store is they ship overnight, very often with delivery to Auckland first thing in the morning.

My 32Gb White 3GS has just shipped, I will expect it on my desk tomorrow morning. :)
