Interesting update. Just annoyed that they didn't increase the screen size. Well not annoyed, because I love my SGSII, but yeah. Maybe will consider the next one which I am pretty sure will have a bigger screen. 3.5 feels too small after the 4.3 I have currently.

But then again, Nexus Prime :O

I think if anyone is a disappointed it is because they read to much in to the hype. This year was by far the worst I have seen. To the point I did not follow the news at all. iphonewzealand was pretty spot on when they said it was way over the top with an article they did.

I'm not sure many companies could pump out an "innovative" new phone every year. It's like everyone expects the same levels of surprise when the iPhone first came out. I also think people are forgetting that iOS5 is going to change the way the phone feels a lot. So meh.

I admit I'm looking more and more at Android phones to see what gains it offers. Not enough at the moment to make the switch.

While its a disappointing release, if siri works in NZ it may be enough to lure me back to jailbroken iOS.

Have been fairly disappointed with Android on my SGS2.

Your right. If the screen was a little bigger, and keeping same exterior form factor, it will have got my approval, as the usability enhancements are very good.

Care to elaborate why? I was very close to going Android (Galaxy S or Nexus S) when I got my iPhone 4 earlier this year.

Posted the release www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=9412

Note Siri (and integration) is a beta feature. It's customised for US, UK, Australian English, French and German.

No mention of New Zealand in the press release at all.

I imagine it would require a bit of work to change all the vowel recognition protocols before it's released in NZ.

ai / ea = ee (bear = beer)

a = i  (man = min)

See my 'article' here: http://www.on3network.co.nz/showthread.php?76879-An-iOS-fans-journey-into-the-world-of-Android

I did a lot of reading on iOS vs Android before I made the switch.

But theres a lot of small things those articles missed, which drive me insane....

So in theory, if you bought an Australian iPhone 4S, it works as long as long as you talk in an Australian accent!!!

But seriously - I expect that all the features of Siri (related to productivity) will work in NZ if you have the Aussie version except the localised data (e.g. "Take me to a Italian restaurant that serves chips in Ponsonby" or Will it rain in Auckland this afternoon?"

I agree with your comments about the screen size. After looking at the specifications of the iPhone 4S on GSMarena:

http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone2=3621

I see that the iPhone 4S still doesn't have a built-in FM radio receiver, is this correct? I realise that you can stream internet radio, but I still think a built-in FM receiver is a very good option (for example, the Samsung Galaxy S2 has an FM radio).

The weight of the iPhone 4S is 140g but the Galaxy S2 weighs just 116 grams and has a bigger screen, I wonder how Samsung achieved this?

The iPhone 4S doesn't have a card slot, do you think that future upgrades will include this?

Overall, do you think current Android owners would be sufficiently impressed to switch to the iPhone 4S?

Regards

You're right.

One thing I do hate about iPhones is no FM radio.

I got a Nokia with a built in FM radio, and I have never had to turn it on so far. Why bother if you have a MP3 store - unless you want to listen to Talkback.

Incidentally the chip in the 4GS that does the 3G and Data also has a FM tuner - but it is unlikely Apple will ever turn it on given the $$$ they make from iTunes music purchases.

I'm not overly fond of music, prefer humorous DJ's.

Podcasts aren't the same.

Obviously data caps too small in NZ to use too much radio over data.

FM Radio = good.

I doubt it. Apple fans will buy if they're coming from a 3Gs as it's a large improvement over their current handset, but there are already many Android phones out there that exceed the 4S's specs. So unless you have decided that you hate Android, WinPhone and RIM, there's not a lot of compelling argument to make for switching to the 4S.

Galaxy S has gone to its new owner. HTC Sensation has gone to its new
owner. Galaxy S3 has gone to its new owner. Now using Galaxy Note 3. Skipping Note 4 I think...

Thanks for your replies. Another point in favour of the Galaxy S2 is that it has a removable 1650mAh battery. I'm not sure whether the 1420mAh battery of the iPhone 4S is removable or not, can anyone advise on this please?

I suppose most people wouldn't need a second battery for their smart phones, but if you are using it as a portable GPS for walks etc, this can use up battery power. I realise that it's best to have a dedicated GPS for tramping etc but for casual use, a smart phone with a replaceable battery would probably be a reasonable option?
