I've been using my Apple Watch Edition with Spark for the last couple of days and it's working well, and as expected. So far, all the apps that work on WiFi (no iPhone on) also behave the same way on cellular.

Note that if you are a Spark Digital customer you need to get them to add your One Number Plan for you and provide the Apple Watch EID and IMEI to them. After that is processed the plan is available and ready for the Apple Watch with no further setup. You do NOT use the 'Setup Mobile' process that shows in the Watch App > Settings > Mobile.

For me, MySpark has access to usage and addons like roaming on my business connection, but not the required permissions to add a plan like this. For retail/consumers I'd expect this to be smoother, but I'm not sure.

question - how did you get an Edition? The Apple website only allows for Stainless Steel (and now Nike) cellular versions. I’m keen for titanium, but Apple couldn’t advise me when this is available for sale in NZ, albeit that was last week.

I got my S5 Ceramic from Australia. The AU/NZ versions are the same models. You can run into warranty issues with Apple products that are not sold in NZ as they sometimes need to be returned to Australia for service.

Did a speed test using SpeedCheck app on the Apple Watch series 3 connected via Cell. Results: Ping 597ms, Download 0.88 Mbps, Upload 0.24 Mbps. According to the watch I had full 4 dots reception, location East Tamaki.

I could have got the Titanium Edition via my ex, an Apple employee in Aus, for only a touch more than my non-cell Nike S5 I bought here in NZ. Annoyed at my own impatience - I really wanted the titanium. I suspect it would have felt less “disposable”.

Same app Speedcheck on the iPhone had the following results so I suspect the app is not showing true potential. 74ms, down 6.91, up 2.51. Fast.com gave me 50 Mbps.

Not sure I'll be doing anything on my watch besides music streaming that would require a lot of bandwidth - maybe next year they'll add a camera for FaceTime :-)

I've been wishing they'd add Facetime to the Apple TV (via a wireless camera of sorts).

Touch ID under the Watch Screen would be very cool.

I read a rumor of Apple using Qualcomm's ultrasonic fingerprint sensor technology next year.

I wouldn't want it in a phone (FaceID is perfect IMO) but in the Watch it might be nice.

Gotcha - I’m not planning to go to Aussie until mid-Feb, I went 20 times this year but totally failed to get the watch!

Ping 519 ms

Down: 5.17 Mbps

Up: 0.59 Mbps

Location: Ponsonby, Auckland, 2 bars signal strength, in building.

Thats a much better result from mine, being a version 5 watch probably helps. With mine just 1 Mbps I wonder how reliable music streaming will be, 5 should be very good.

So I went through the setup and it said it succeeded. The plan shows in my Apple Watch mobile settings but it won’t connect. Have tried restarting the watch but still no go. Any ideas?
