From what I can tell Apple TV 4K already support Apple Lossless.

The new thing is that streaming Apple Music will also support Apple Lossless. From Apple's support documents it seems that the Apple TV 4K will only support up to 48 kHz sampling rate.

Honestly, the highest lossless format Apple will be providing seems like a complete waste to me (24 bit, 192 kHz). There is no way anyone will be able to hear the difference between CD quality and that.

GSManiac: Just getting around to using the remote. It’s pretty obvious that the mute and pause/play button need to be around the other way. Clearly Apple didn’t do any market research.

Absolutely correct, dumb! stuff right there!! So using it in the dark, find the bottom left button, then remember to move up one. Not looking forward to that.

FineWine:

:

1 - It will support Spatial Audio because it supports Dolby Atmos (garnered from Movieman's above video)
2 - It will only support Apple Lossless Audio via the USB connection

I have the Yamaha RX-A1080 receiver, which is, pretty much the same inside as the RX-V1085.

I just looked on my manual, and it states that the receiver can handle ALAC (Apple hi res audio) up to 96 kHz / 24 bit

My Apple TV (old HD version) is connected to the TV, which then connects to my Sonos Playbase via optical cable.

Will I get Apple Music lossless with this setup, or is there a risk that the TV might downsample the audio before feeding it out the optical port? I can't remember whether the Apple TV has an optical output but, if so, should I be using that to connect it directly to the Playbase?

The only mention in my manual of ALAC is in the supported devices section under USB connection. But then reading the fine print it says "This section explains the devices and file formats supported by the unit" so I guess it does.

Looks like you can pause and play by clicking the centre of the wheel so maybe not so much of an issue, but if you're used to using the play/pause on the current remote, dumb IMHO.

I've always used the centre of the wheel/swipe pad for pausing and restarting movies/TV programs. Never thought to use the actual pause button.

It turned up today. Yay.

Anyone know how to get rid of the 'you are entitled to a years free Apple TV' or whatever it says ? I've said to join, accepted things, confirmed things, gone out of the app and back in, and the message is still there and I've joined about 3 times so far.

After accepting the offer on startup, that notification hasn't returned on ours. Thankfully, everything seems to be running smoothly.

Hopefully it'll have magically disappeared the next time I use it, which is probably tomorrow.

Just found out that we can get 3 months free Apple Arcade access with a new Apple hardware purchase.

I had a similar situation with the Apple Arcade offer recently. I accepted the three months and had it set up but it was like it was delayed on Apple’s side and the option to redeem the offer kept popping up. It disappeared after a short while (a couple hours I think) so the same thing should happen for you.

I guess their servers are seeing a little more action at the moment with new units being delivered.

Still get the same this morning.

It keeps telling me to make sure there's enough money in some Apple account, which could of course be the problem, though why it should be if the next payment wouldn't be for another year...

Its very likely to be the problem. They will need a CC or something to cover the cost of subscribing, even if you are only going to use the free offer.

I have a CC registered with Apple, which they charge any purchases to. Including iTunes movies etc.
