Normally a very respected commentator on all things i, iLounge.com have released this rendering and accompanying article.

Very interesting - but doen't excite me.

http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/backstage/comments/the-new-iphone-size-screen-new-connector-plus-ipod-touch/

4" screen, partial alu back, 20% thinner...

no mention of a tapered alu design or any internal changes at this stage.

Not that exciting.
I really hope there is no change to the dock connector. Imagine all those accessories that will be rendered useless. Not that I suppose Apple cares about that.

Samsung may well have forced Apple's hand with the release of the Galaxy SIII.

There's been so much buzz around the SGS3 that it was almost like an Apple launch.

I think Apple will launch a counter-strike earlier than that wanted to, based on the excitement.

Im not so sure its been forced by the S3. They wouldnt be in any position to make any real changes to the hardware, but it woukd actuallty make sense to see what OS featuires were added to the S3 as they can include that in iOS6

I cannot see a dock connector change at all, I can see no benefit. I can't see a 4" either, too small. They can make a 4.5 fit into the 4S casing, by moving home button down, and camera. earpiece up.

Yes, it is good to see a hype thing going on with the S3, its a good phone, it deserves it. But like any hype, that creates a false expectation which is never met.

With SJ gone, with so much competition, I can see a 4S case style that is a little taller, little wider, and a 4.5" screen. That would make the 5 an average size top end phone, but it may be best of class in terms of a big screen with a small form factor. That would be a biggie as while many drool over the S2 size, as do I, for many its too big to hold. An iPhone 4/4S is the ideal size to hold and use, and if they can eek a 4.5 out of that or a tad bigge . that wopudk be a big plus.

Add the A5x dual CPU quad GPU, 1GB ram, real customisation (again, a factor of SJ gone and competition and easy to do), longer battery, tweak the already good camera, add more activationy stuff that the S3 has, and be a step above an incremental release.

June wouldn't surprise me since WWDC is June 11th this year, and the first 4 iPhone's were launched June\July up until the 4S. They may decide to announce a refresh of the Mac line instead tho which is also due.

I severely doubt any competitor product would shift Apple's timing of a launch tho. I don't think they care to be honest.

Ha ha...that's actually what I thought, but to be honest I don't mind the 3.5" screen that my 4S has.

Personally, I'd like to see a more rounded back-plate made of Liquidmetal or similar, but it sounds like there's not enough cpacity to manufacture in quantities required as yet and stainless looks naff after a week of mild scratching...

If Steve jobs were alive he doesn't are with you.

I would love a 4.5 so let's see what Mr cook can do....

With the sg3 they need to get the new thing out ... Whether they can is a different matter ... Let's see

I don't know if all you guys have handbags or what, but I certainly don't want a phone any bigger than my current iPhone.

I used to think that, but after spending a few weeks with a phone with a 4.7" screen, I find I'm really slumming it when looking at my iPhone's screen.

He says in the article that the new phone is coming "this fall", which would be our Spring?

A new iPhone and a new iPad at the same time? That would make for a pretty crazy event!
