So i recently bought a 16gb wifi iPad from Paris. I have just charged it for the third time since getting it, but it took around 10 hours for it to charge 0-100%.

Is this normal for it to take so long? Seems like a ridiculous amount of time.

Thanks guys

It is normal. the new ipad has a 42.5 watt-hour battery where as the ipad 2 has a 25 watt-hour battery.. using the 10watt charger takes considerable time to charge this rather large battery

That wouldn't surprise me.

My original iPad2 takes quite a while to charge the battery (several hours), but once charged, the battery lasts for ages too. If the new iPad 2 has an even larger battery, it will take even longer to charge.

Sounds right, I've run mine right down and put it on the charge over night, by morning it might only be upto 80%

You are using the charger it came with (2A) and not an iPhone charger (1A) by chance?

Plus one on that....the iphone charger is much slower.

I don't think my 2A charger takes 10 hours.

I do notice, the battery depowers quickly playing graphical games.

Battery life/recharge time  is the biggest drawback about the new ipad.Otherwise, it is a supreme device.

I think apple has peaked, sell your shares :)

It takes between 6-7 hours to charge for me.

Check you are using the 2A charger

I recommend letting it drain completely at least once (i.e. charge to 100% and then drain completely) per month.

This is recommended by Apple. I find that after the first full 2 drains of my new iPad the battery life holds better after that

I think it takes between 2 -4 hours to charge the ipad 2. I had heard that it can take double that to charge the new ipad, so up to 10 hours is possible. In my opinion that is too long, but the new ipad needs more power to run the retina displays, so you are paying for that in the longer charge time, and it is fatter and heavier than the ipad2

About 7 hours charge time for mine.
I have the brightness just under halfway and it lasts longer than my old ipad2.
