I do not for one second believe iOS6 will come without the new Phone ...

Does anyone know then the new OS would be deployed and hence if we apply 2-3 weeks in advance we should have the Phone announced ...

of course you can say rumours are no more than rumours but without rumours why the heck have the internet!

IMO.

I think all that's been said so far is that iOS6 will be available in 'fall' (i.e. our spring). So, I'd be betting on a September release to coincide with one year since the release of the 4S.

I bought the 4S last year so I won't be upgrading this year, but I'm hoping that NFC will be included in this year's model. It will be interesting to see what they call it - the current speculation makes sense that they will just call it the "new iPhone" in line with that they've done with the iPad.

Or will it possibly be called "the new iPhone" in line with the iPad. Or maybe the iPhone 4CU (for "catch up") and incorporate a quadcore processor, larger screen, NFC, smartstay, burst photography,..... :P

It is the O/S being marketed instead of the device. IIRC this was not the emphasis last time.

It is an interesting development worthy of attention.

Here is my speculation:

There will be two new iPhones or two put it another way; there will now be two screen sizes available for the iPhone 5, 5 inch and 3.5 inch. The internals will be the same and there will be the usual range of storage. The form factor will be much the same as the 4/4S. Not everybody wants a big screen.

The 3GS will cease to be available officially, and the 4 will become the entry level option.

This is based on the nothing but my own observations.

there have never been two sizes released in one go ... only storage sizes ... and re specs it needs to at least compete with the galaxy s3 if not smash it to bits ...

True but only one iPhone with a screen about 5 inches is a bit of an 'all eggs in one basket' approach.

Keeping a 3.5 inch model means there is still a case for buying an iPhone and an iPad but a 5 inch only phone risks taking sales from iPads, which I believe are lower margin based on the relative price difference to similar spec Android tablets.

I just don't think everybody wants a 5 inch phone, exec types and such who just want a phone, and Apple don't want to loose those sales. But like you say they need to compete with Galaxy Note/S 3. This is a way they can have both.

It may 'dilute' the brand but iPhone is such a strong brand I think they will risk it.

Quad core? http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57410518-94/7-myths-about-quad-core-phones-smartphones-unlocked/

Pointless numbers to make a phone sound faster IMHO.

And large screens are not for everyone, I love being able to hit all points on the screen with my thumb one handed.

NFC would be nice but only if there are places to actually use it.

I feel that we have stated to move away from hardware specs and a phone is now all about the software ease of use and the apps that are available.

I don't think it will be 5 inch. 4.3 maybe. 5 inch they have to redo the whole form factor and I don't think they want the phone that much bigger.

If they did go to 5" would that open Apple up to being sued by Samsung for copying? (The Note).

The rumour mill suggests 4" which sounds very plausible, my wife loves her 4s but regularly complains of the small screen so I will look at upgrading her if this rumour is true.

I think a whole lot of people are going to be very disappointed upon i5 release, those dabbling with pre-release iOS6 are not blown away with innovation

Well much of the "innovation" is only bringing to the iPhone what other OS's have had for some time.

I can see where this is going..... :-)

My input is that it will be 4" thats where the rumourmill is going these days. Pity. Long and thin, ugh
Hopefully it will not be tall.
A5x processor, more RAM, incremental camera update, same Retina screen, same DPI as now
NFC
I'd say same external style maybe in a different colourway.

Yes, it will fall short of the hype, as is always the case. Expectations artificially high, never met. Cant blame Apple, they keep a good secret. S3 was a letdown to many from what I read, thats what happens with expectations from rumour
